Android - How to use it

badbad Member Posts: 18
Well the android is coming soon (Fall)

I would love to know the process of uploading to android, and becoming an android dev

Is the android market a little more difficult to get approved like the Mac AppStore?

Do you have to pay money to become a dev like apples $100 fee?

How long for the approval process?

Who does the approval proccess goto?

Do apps that suck get rejected?

How do you check sales?

Etc

No, it's Android... even malware makes it onto the Android Market. :-p

Google Checkout... it's pretty neat... sales tax is tricky for me though. Google doesn't manage sales tax like Apple. New York has so many different rates and tax zones. That means I have to check that the right amount was charged for sales in upstate New York, as compared to New York City... very tedious. Google doesn't guarantee accuracy on their automatic calucations either, so I had to check their work. I still have a -5¢ on my account because I issued a refund to a customer (It was either a Textbook sale or a Sound Effects sale... regular Google Checkout Orders get mixed in.). Heh... maybe I should start selling Android apps again.

The Android Market is way easier in the sense of Getting your stuff there and way harder in the sense of Customer service. All transactions go through your own account and all complaints and refund requests and such come directly to you and you have to take care of each of them yourself. I personally would not get your hopes up for the Android market being some magic saving grace. The actual android market seems to have very few big money makers.

OMG! we need Android market NOW! or else I can't make apps!

Seriously, I was excited to see Android on the roadmap, but after a little research, it's not that big of a deal. Still a new demographic, but doesn't look promising as far as getting your game out to people. Especially if it costs anything.

How about managing resolution/image size. Is the aspect ratio the same as iphone?

My company has been a huge member of the android developer community as far as making applications for the enterprise. Obviously coding and not GameSalad. As far as ratio and things like that it is 99 percent like iPhone however when it comes to android tablets it becomes a bit more complex because they come in different sizes but the smaller ones such as galaxy tab run the phone version of the os. Also it is $25.00 a year and they have a great developer device program.

Seems like to me that the Android market is great for the Free or at most .99 version of your game and the iOS market is for the "Big" version of your game. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a question about the fee. Is it a one time 25$ fee or is it a yearly. I thought it was one time.
