action scrip programmers call themself coders.. and there's a lot of drag and drop modules available... same to a lot of other platform that gives you an short-cuts to codes without having to type the whole thing.

UI is meant to make people's life easier, a computer user is a computer user regardless of unix or pc/mac... a programmer is a programmer as long as he knows what he's doing regardless of actually typing out the codes or not right?

anyways just random thoughts..

We're not coders, but we're programmers. Maybe closer to scripting, it is a bit easier than Action Script I think :)

It's not just about the drag and drops, it's about all those built in functions GS has. Translating a few drag and drops in C++ would end up in 3 pages of code.

But yeah, it's the same kind of logic.

Not Really Code. But we call it code to make our selfs feel good about it.

You def will not get any respect from other Coders if you tell them you use GameSalad.

True, there are code snippets, but to do the really cool stuff with actions script, you really need to understand how to write the code. Even the snippets are not complete in themselves, you have to understand how to integrate them... which requires understanding code.

As said above, I think "programmer" is a suitable term with how things are built with GS.

    First point is true!

Second point I agree with too - though a good friend of mine that creates PlayStation Dev Tools continually calls me a 'coder'.

    I just laugh at him!

As a game designer, part of my job seems to be to ask coders if they can add this or that to the codebase so I can make something cool.

When making Gravitrixx, my partner Jake was always coming up with ideas (being a designer himself).

*I* was the one having to 'code' the feature set to the point that to make a level, all he had to do was drag actors into a scene, position them and then edit one actor.

At that point I really felt bad for all the coders I'd ever asked to do anything. All I could think was 'But that would be so much more work - stop asking me to add more stuff!!!' :D

So I certainly can empathise a lot more with 'real' coders these days. But I'd never personally call myself a coder!

What we're really doing is 'scripting'. Just like the Corona lot, though they like to call it 'coding' - (see tenrdrmer's first point!).

    QS :D

@QS - You have no idea the warm fuzzy feeling I get when you agree with me. LOL
