level transfer question.. techniques?

ok, my friend made an insane level castlevania style with all kinds of labyrinths and what not.. im going to have to cut the game up into 20+ scenes just to TEST the thing..
the first thing i have to do is take it by a ROom by room basis and as people suggested, put them togeather as a Jigsaw puzzle.
My question is this, whats the best (memory efficant) way to make a PLAYABLE level in this way?
because gamesalad only recognizes pictures as rectangles and circles, meaning i would have to either make the picture itself part of the ground, or i would have to just take a blank ground actor and call it ground. so lets say i have 1 room with 5 or 6 floor depths, like a rocky surface,
is it better to photoshop splice each depth and make it its own actor and have say.. 5 or 6 actors from this image, or is it better to use a Blank actor and just make it the size i need for the ground depths? the difference being i use a blank actor instead of the actual image, and keep the image to the background..
note thats JUST the floor, not to mention the walls and ceiling.. cant have people jumping through walls..
