Oversized Game Publishing

RodrigoPerezRodrigoPerez Member Posts: 212
Hi there I have a game that's 73mb and when I go to publish I get an error message "The GameSalad publishing server is experiencing problems. Please try again later."

I did test out a 5mb app and it published it in 30 seconds no problem. So I know it's the size of the game that's the issue. How can this be solved because I know people have successfully published games bigger than 73mb.

WOW! 73mb. That is a huge game. Try to delete unneeded graphics and sounds. You will just need to make sacrifices and cut that size down somehow.

Also how many images and sounds do you have to make a game 73mb?

Well there isn't any "unnecessary" graphics or sounds. How do you suppose Photics' game BOT was able to get published and BOT is even bigger than the game I'm trying to publish.

    Any help?

Why don't you try to contact Photics with the chat or get his email somehow. He will know the answer. Also another solution might be to check your internet connection.

Yeah PM's aren't a very good way to contact somebody here, I tried to publish another game which was only 40mb and got the same error.

Yeah, you should totally contact him. He's very friendly and helpful. He knows a lot about GameSalad and he wrote that textbook.

Oh wait... I'm Photics. HA HA!

I do have a contact form on my website... and a chat box... and a forum :)

BOT was actually bigger than the final size. I had to turn my background images into Indexed PNG files, which made them 1/4 of the original size. Limiting the colors to 256 did hurt the graphic quality a little bit, so I had to touch up some of the artwork.

Also... I found that some players don't like large games. I was surprised by players that thought the game was too big. But apparently, some players don't have a lot of space on their iOS devices. My 77 MB project ballooned into a 146 MB file after GameSalad publishing.

You should be able to publish a 73 MB file, as BOT is bigger, but maybe your file is timing out before it finishes uploading to GameSalad. Maybe try uploading the file from a faster Internet connection. While many ISPs have great download speeds, they might be stingy with upload speeds.

Thanks for taking the time to respond Photics I will go back and optimize all my images to see how small I can get the file, and below is my speedtest. I would think at about 5mb upload that 73mb wouldn't be a problem.
