using an ipod 4G and i am really excited to get ios 5 on both here and my ipad 1.
but when i try and update i get "the software server cannot be reached" for some reason.

i tried looking at the host file but the line your supposed to add a "#" to isnt there.

if anyone can help you would be saving me alot if time trying to figure this out.

i tried booting in DFU mode and it still doesnt work D:

Are you trying to install iOS5 Beta on your devices? You have to firstly download the .ipsw from itunesconnect. Once downloaded, connect your device, option+click the RESTORE button and select the ipsw files you have downloaded. done.

yeah i have the ISPW files. but the actual update just wont work, it wont even get to activation..

i click restore or update or whatever and it just says extracting then stops at the end of extraction.

    any ideas?

does my current software have to be 4.3.3?

-Check you downloaded the ight firmware
-Check you used RESTORE (it doesn't work with update)
-Check you have itunes beta (the new one for iOS5)

If these are all ok I'm not sue what the problem is. Try reinstalling iTunes.

Once downloaded, connect the equipment, the Option + click the Restore button and select the ipsw you downloaded. Ready.
