Hi, I was wondering: how can I make the backgrounds in my pictures transparent in GIMP ? They really stick out like a sore thumb!

You have to save your work as .png (24bit with alpha channel) file.

in gimp, click layer, transparenct, add alpha chanel. That will put the transparency behind your image. Then use the fuzzy select tool or the select by color tool to select all the white around the image, and then cut it out
youll be good to go after that.

How do you cut it out? There's only the Scissor Select tool, and that only creates an outline.
