I'd use the second one, but flip the image horizontally so that the nut is on the right of the image.
It's a psychology thing really - moving to the right is always associated with success. For example, watch any film, and if they run to the right, you know they'll escape. Running to the left will always get them trapped!
I am working as graphic designer. As I said earlier I am ready to purchase this game with $5.00 Beacuse its look very intresting. But sorry to say that. You need to work on the icon. try some more icons. Its ok to take 1 week to create icon for this type of game. Colors are very dull and its affect your sales. I am very confidant that your game will be succeful but sorry with these 2 icons those are not impressive.
I like the 2nd one better. I think you should make the nut stand out more (maybe make it more golden or at least use a different palette than the squirrel). I agree with QS about putting the nut on the right. At least for languages that read left to right (like English), our eyes have been trained to track that way (which is probably why there is similar movement in movies) and our brains equate going to the right with making progress.
The newest icon is VERY inviting, and I'm glad you didn't cut off the ears. The drop shadow over the border is distracting though. The sharpness of the previous versions are more effective.
The color palette and value scale are a little problematic. A slightly muted background will help your subjects pop. As a reference you can look at the Angry Birds icon. Bright red over a slightly muted blue with elements of brightness to keep the eye moving. Also keep in mind that red and yellow are impulse colors. Use that to your advantage.
You've got an effective composition. Nice job on that.
Here's an example of where the colors can be pushed. The value scale could be a little more dynamic than this, but you get the idea.
Things are looking great man, I'm hoping for good things for you!

Many thanks for the feedback , i took your advice to my attention , ill play with it some more and post the updated version .
Just finished some final tests , i think the game is ready for submission . BUT , i still have 2 GS problems , first is the annoying "Authentication complete" and the second is the music bug that is caused by it , what do you think? should i hold the release until the fix for these bugs?
Roy your game is great concept, graphics everything is perfect please don't get hurry. Because some time single minor bug create big issue in sales. So first try to find out. I am using old ipod 2g if you want to test send me file for test. I will manage to install it only I need .ipa.

Now i need to wait for the fix , hopefully it will be soon !
By the way , here is the splash screen when opening the game :
I want to share with you a work in progress of the game's trailer ! This is the second part of the video , the first part is a cartoon movie soon to be finished! Many thanks to old_kipper for making this awesome work!
Hey all , So i decided to wait for 0.97 to come out , before i release the game (because of the music bug) ,and the game is basically done , witch means i have some spare time for polishing it even more I dedicated today for Azoo animation , made some massive changes in EVERY frame ! Made his eyes bigger to give him more expression , and added moving ears and tail , He even reads "Nuts" magazine now Check out the video for comparison between old animation and new : (sorry for the blurry video - its retina on the device)
What do you think? better ?

It feels that the "Jump Out!" and "Cut the rope" gave birth to a child under the name of "Spin the Nut"
