Some beginner questions

I have the .psd files of a children's picture book that I'd like to make into an App for iPad. So it will be a storybook on iPad.

Some questions:

1. I understand that GameSalad is primarily for games, and my project is a kids' storybook. Would GameSalad be an appropriate tool to create a storybook App?

2. I want to start with a very simple version of the book -- each page being an image, and the user being able to 'turn the pages' -- so there'd be no animation or voiceover in this first version. For this first version, would the Basic version of GameSalad do the job?, including being able to publish it to the App Store?

3. I want to use my own brand -- Wordfruit -- as the publisher. Is there any requirement to use the GameSalad name/logo/brand in the App? Does this differ according to which version of GameSalad I have?

4. What fees are there involved in me getting my App into the App Store?

5. Does GameSalad take a percentage of the sales of my App?

6. Since my App is a children's story book and not a game, would using GameSalad create any disadvantages in people finding the App? (E.g. if it is categorized as a GameSalad game, people might not find it when they look for storybooks...? Or do I simply create the App, download it to my computer and then upload it to the App Store? -- in which case I guess I would determine how it is categorized...?

Thanks to anyone who is able to help out with these questions.

    4. $100 to Apple for 1 year of publishing unlimited games. + 30%
    5. no
    6. no disadvantages, yes you would determine categorization.
    Best of luck!

GameSalad is perfect for doing story books. It's not just a game maker, it can be easily used for multimedia presentations (as long as video isn't a requirement in your project) and eventually I think it would make for good kiosk presentations. Anyway, there have been several story books made with GameSalad, and there is a tutorial somewhere from tshirtbooth that has a page turn effect that would work great in that project.

You need an Apple Developer Account which is $99 a year to be able to publish apps to the app store. GameSalad is free, but there is a Pro version if you want to have your own custom splash screen without GameSalads splash screen, and Game Center, and in app links. That's $500 a year. It's not necessary to have the GameSalad Pro account to publish, you can publish with the free version. And GameSalad does not take any percentage of your app sales.

You select what category the app goes in to. People will have no idea that it was made with GameSalad until they see the splash screen, and even then they probably have no idea who, or what GameSalad is.

BTW WordFruit, only .PNG images are acceptable in GameSalad. So change your .PSD to .PNG

He can keep them as .psd's. That's actually easier to work with since you can just drag and drop it straight into GameSalad. Makes it easier when updating or changing graphic files. You don't have to export or "save for web" when you use .psd's

But yes, all images get converted to .png when imported into GameSalad.
