CUSTOM SPRITES copyright issues

wondering where to find custom 2d sprites. A lot of people have referred me to sprites of games that are already made and popular. Will I get into any trouble for using some of these sprites or not. Also, are there any places for sprites that are CUSTOM MADE that won't land me any copyright issues?

    uptimistik.....Hilarious....guess I wasn't specific with my question. I was wondering if there are full sprite sheet websites like (www.spriters-resource.com) that offer the same sprite sheet setup but ROYALTY FREE

    Using any sprite from a game will get u a lawsuit. Also custom and free dont go together. Custom refers to made to your needs and specs, which you wont get for free.

    Like uptimistik pointed out [ +1 btw ;) ] google open domain royalty free sprites
