Interesting question

Hi there everyone....

While this post im sure might get deleted and might cause a little bit of friction im actually asking a very pertinent question and one that would be beneficial to those in the community that look to sell items and templates within the market place.

I notice Stickie threads at the top of the marketplace subforum from people like TSB and Utopian, and this obs helps their exposure and from it I would infer they receive increased sales as one would expect in having your sales thread on the top of the forum headers - but then if you look down they also have normal unstuck threads advertising their wares.

Im not for one second suggesting that they shouldn't have their position at the top of the subforum or that Game Salad is doing the "normal" members a diservice because of this - but as someone that would like to be selling my wares on the main (read first) page of the Market place forum having 5 or 6 new threads selling the latest and greatest templates from a sous chef / uber member pushing the threads of other members onto the second and third pages (thus having far less exposure) all the while themselves having a prime location on top of the first page of the sub forum anyway seems a little unfair.

The argument can be made that a member can bump and promote his / her thread themselves with new posts and thank you's but I have seen threads merged by sous chefs for the very reason of tidiness and / or keeping a members offerings to one thread.

Why is this when the more popular template makers seem to have free reign to post how they like and not in one luxury spot that they already hold ?

Im sure many will look down on me for saying what I have above and I really dont mean to rock the boat or have it seem that im attacking any one like TSB or Darren as their products are awesome and I highly recommend them!, but I would like to clarify why this is...just so that we all have a level playing ground and are seen as fair to all.

This will help those of us trying to gain a foothold (if we are allowed to of course ;-) ) on the marketplace understand the pitfalls and bonus's of double posting / bumping / having our topics merged or starting a new thread and the etiquette of doing so as not to spam up the forum in a way that is not appreciated.

Thanks for listening and please dont take this post the wrong way.

I think that its Great you are willing to call someone out for something you think is wrong and even better you do so in such a civil way.

Now I'd like to take a second to give you my take on the situation. First of All GameSalad did not make those Stickies. They where all made by the Same sous-chef who asked a whole handful of people if they wanted to list there stuff in that forum because he felt they had earned the right to better exposure. Similar to a Feature in iTunes. I personally was not even a sous-chef when that was offered. The other justification was the marketplace is jammed full of "Junk". For instance. I have seen people offering other peoples templates for sale as their own. I have seen People join GameSalad one day and then turn around the next day and combine several free demos into one and offer it for sale. So to keep the better stuff visible we had to bump our threads non-stop to stay on the first page. That alone is not a good thing because then we are just completely covering everyones threads with our own. So Now I have one thread at the top that I can update all the time. And I only bump all of the threads if there is a big sale I am offer. I believe the others do that as well. As that was part of the idea. We would not drive everyone else's threads off the front page of the market and our thread would stay on the front page regardless of the junk that gets added.

Hopefully I have explained that in a way that does not turn this in a huge argument of right and wrong. Favoritism is a concern I expressed when I was asked If I wanted a sticky.

And Really at this point in the Game This marketplace is not long for the world since everything should be moving to the new marketplace in the next few weeks. I hope anyway.

Oh im sorry its seen as looking as though im "calling someone out" - that really isnt my intention at all.

I fully get and appreciate having the top (in my opinion) template and content makers up there as it makes things really easy to get to and look at.

Also having read about the new market place I can see the Marketplace forum threads dying off (maybe GS ?)

Not for one moment would I want my post above to make it sound like im aiming things at a right and wrong argument, if I have done so then I apologise!

But I thought I would ask the question as there just seemed to be this little idyllic spot at the top that few people had access too and also they have threads as well - its like parking in the middle of two car park spaces in the local mall / shopping center and I wondered what the etiquette was for such situations.

Well we do still make specific threads for each item we have to give more detail. The Sticky is kinda like a catalogue and then each item gets a listing with more detail on the item.
