I want to know what you think...

I have been reading a lot about App marketing and I learned quite a few things. I'm working on the web page and we're supposed to get our app out in the open so people can see it (assuming you're not on the top 100 of course... but that's not going to happen soon, hahaha!).

So, I would like you to take a look at the promotional video I made and tell me what you think. It's here:

Where else can I advertise my game? Forums, blogs, youtube...? What are your experiences with these things?

SquareBlobs is currently in review by Apple and (I hope!!!) will go live very soon. So any extra marketing advice is very welcome!

    Hey there,

Sounds like you have a good start on things. About the only other thing you might do is get the word out as much as possible. Send emails to your friends, family, co-workers, and anyone else who owns an iOS device, or knows someone who owns an iOS device and tell them about your app. You might also use prmac.com and send out an official press release. If I remember correctly, its only like $20.00 to send out, and they will send it to as many people as possible. You can also post on social networking sites like FaceBook, Twitter, Tumblr, MySpace, and any other social networking site you can think of. The trick is getting your app in front of as many people as you can. Not just those on the App Store. Hopefully this helps :)

Hey RKS, have you done that with your apps? If so, do you think it has boosted sales at all? Let me know!

prmac.com... another one I didn't know of... I'm tumbling in the dark here! Hahaha!

    Thanks a lot osucowboy :)

And RKS thanks again for that! :)

What do you think is the best sales booster? Updates, ads... something else?

I thinks the video looks great. I really like the beginning. One thing to add though is I think that you should zoom in to make the game full screen. It is kind of hard to see the game when there is a border. All in all it looks really good!

As far as the best sales booster, you won't get much out of ads, or at least most don't. The best way to boost sales is to make a great game! But, I think updates are also good. It shows that you aren't in it just so you can get someone's dollar. It tells your customers you actually care about the app, and are always trying to make it better for them.

Oh and thanks RKS, I may have to look into that if it means an increase in sales at no cost to me. I love reading these kind of threads. I ALWAYS learn something new :)

I absolutely agree with you osucowboy. Making profit out of a game is great, don't get me wrong, but caring about your app makes you and your customers happy.

BTW thanks rodh100, you may be right I think it's a good idea to make the gameplay super clear :)

Yep :). I think that you have outstanding graphics and video in the beginning. How did you make these. Did you use some animation software?

    rodh100:

Yep, I used 3dsmax and After Effects for compositing on this one.

I'm new to video game making but I've worked in VFX for film and television for years :D
