Hey Guys,
I am using my mac development account to access the Lion build, as I've done with previous releases but the Lion GM is still there. When i go to the app store I can't buy Lion as it says installed & I can't install it because it says I have a newer version of "this app" already stored on my computer. Now, the App Store says in my purchases the I currently have "OS X Lion" installed on my computer, but I can't find it. I've spotlighted it; everything.

Please help,
I'd really like to use it today.

Matt

    Just found the answer:
Mac users who installed the Lion Golden Master developer seed may get the following message when trying to install Mac Os X Lion from the Mac App Store: “A newer version of this app is already installed on this computer.” If you want to download the official App Store version anyway, just hold down the Option-Key (Alt-Key) while clicking “Buy App”. The App Store will skip the version check and download the program right away.

    hope that helps

correct, for $99 per year you are a member of the mac developer program, which gives you access to all downloads of OS X

I wrote to Apple to confirm this. It seems unusual to me. The software downloads exceed the value of the development program registration fee. So, why isn't every Mac user a registered developer if you get software earlier and cheaper than regular customers?

I asked if there was some extra restriction on the software.

I think he is referring to the value of Snow leopard and leopard. I don't know if those are still available or not but that what i'm guessing he means

Snow Leopard is still available today & I'm guessing will continue to be available as developers need to boot snow leopard if they had the GM to install Lion.

how does the value exceed? lion is 29.99 and the dev fee is 99.99

If it was just Lion, yeah... it's only $30... but there's other stuff in there.

I think Photics might be talking about Xcode, Snow leopard, Lion, an other software. The problem with this theory is that Snow leopard and Lion were developed years apart so you would have to have been a Mac developer for a few years and it costs $99 a year. So you might get $99 worth of software after paying $300-$400.

Yes theres other stuff that was years apart though.

I think you are over thinking it. The Mac developer program always had access to os downloads, they dropped the price to $99 when the Mac app store was announced to lower the entry barrier. The only thing they removed from the benefits was the substantial hardware discount.
