Request a app?

One of the reasons I originally started designing app was because I wanted to entertain people. After seeing my first couple attempts fail I began thinking of ways to make a game that a large number of people would enjoy playing. One of my ideas was to make a site where potential costumers could basically submit a request with what they thought would be the "perfect game". Other people could then vote and add feedback on submitted apps. Game developers could then easily view the highest rated ideas and develop them into mobile games.

I would be curious to hear what people thought about this idea.

It is an interesting idea. But I have my doubts. Why?

Well, I heard a quote which was that 'no one was looking for the next Harry Potter before Harry Potter'. People en-masse tend not to point to very obvious holes in the market and the reason the holes are there is down to nothing to fill it because no one has come up with the idea yet. I am sure what would be suggested would be more of similar to popular titles, a lot of desires for niche products and occasionally a good idea. The good ideas might well be jumped on by the vigilant dev, and I am sure there would be more than a few of those if the site was popular. And this in turn would reduce the market for an idea that was picked up by many. The current market is in someways giving you the clues anyway and probably a better indicator of what is really selling or will sell, unless you are really looking to do something unusual on a hunch, that breaks the mould.

Better I think to try to build an understand of is a really entertaining app, and work on that. And be oh so self critical.

    just my thoughts. kipper

There are actually several apps out there where people can submit their ideas for new apps and some even pay the person who submitted if they choose to develop them. One even has an app for the device. For example http://www.appswell.com
