Ad Hoc / Developer Builds versus Promo Codes

I totally get that handing out promo codes for new GameSalad releases are great since each person receiving a code would be more apt to responding with a positive review on the App Store, but we can also benefit from each other's work by banding a list of GS game developer's UDIDs, and everyone interested would be put into each one's Provisioning Profile, so that we can pass compiled binaries of our stuff between each other for beta testing.

Whatcha think? Anyone down for that?

Pretty stupid, because you can only register 100 devices. And you have too much work with registering and sending out provisioning files, which mostly don't work without problems.

In opposite to promo codes, which you get 50 by every update.

By the way, the best site to give away your promo codes and get reviews for them is http://iphoneapp-promocodes.com

Did IQs just drop sharply while i was away?

It's pretty stupid to dismiss out of hand an idea that could help catch some serious bugs before you release a game out into the wild, thus improving the quality of the apps created.

Any and all bug testing is invaluable. There's no way anyone makes perfect games, and being close to your own project means you may miss something important.

All the provisioning profiles and beta versions of my apps have worked flawlessly. I don't know where you get the idea that they don't? Is sending out one email to a bunch of people with two files attached really a lot of work? REALLY?

Also, you're more likely to play the game as intended. Newcomers may play differently, which in turn could turn up some serious issues.

As to only having 100 devices you can register - well, I don't know 100 people with iPhones in the real world. Perhaps I'm unpopular? And I wouldn't give a game out to complete strangers, just a small amount of well trusted people (usually friends). 100 devices is more than enough.

@ BTT - if I have the time, I'd gladly try and help.

    +1 BeyondtheTech, QS

to be honest i don't have any beta-testers... so i still can register 99 devices ;))
I am very interested in sharing UDIDs!

btw. the moment i get the promocodes should be the time where beta-testing is over ...

    Cheers

    Sorry, my bad.
I didn't read the last lines with beta testing.
I thought, he wants to promote his games by ad hoc releases instead of promo codes. It was late in the night, sorry :-)

yep would definitely be interested, I only have access to a 3GS for testing...so anyone with older models would be brilliantly handy...
