I've even gotten a review that says don't bother takes forever to load. Just something to look into. Or think about. Sometimes it's so long it seems frozen. Don't get me wrong Im cool with the splash just how long it hangs.

For Stunt Squirrels, the load time is about 10 seconds before the spinning icon appears, and then a few more seconds after that. This is on my 3GS.

It's always REALLY slow on my 2g iPod.

Game Engines I have noticed typically take longer to load. I played a couple of games made with UNITY & the load times were about on par with GS. Typically your real fast loading games are the made from scratch games. This is just what I have noticed.

yeah deffo... the main prob is that it seems ages before the loading icon appears. I've seen people hammering at the screen just assuming it's hung.
If there was a way to have that loading icon from the start of the splash, that would be help.

We definitely need a progress bar. That will really help things out. At least they won't just figure the program has hung up, and that they'll be seeing the game soon enough.

Why do I feel like a new version of GameSalad is imminent? ;). Perhaps something to coincide with Apple's keynote tomorrow? Nothing like taking or sharing a little thunder from the spotlight...

i find if i reboot my phone and go to my app straightaway it loads in about 2 seconds, every load after that 12 seconds, if i go to another app first and then load my app it takes around 12 seconds. It only happens to me if i load my app first after a reboot

@beefy: How do your non-GS apps fare? Do they take longer to load than they normally do then when your load them after a fresh reboot?

Or is what folks experiencing truly a GS phenom?
  • beefy_clyrobeefy_clyro Member Posts: 5,394
@rebump, no only experience it on GS apps, dont know if anyone else does

It's not a GS only experience, it's basically any game builder I've seen. Next time you see a game built from UNITY see how long it takes to load.

GS load is just slow - period. I built a empty game 1 scene and no actors and that took 12 sec to load. The only thing that will save you is you app has to be awesome. Other then that Adobe is releasng a flash version this year that will export to iPhone. There are a few free apps that have been ported, and the load time is better.

I'm pretty sure its loading the game salad "player" since these games arent built in xcode.

I still think a loader bar is the key.

Ive have played games that do take a longer to load but there is a bar (even if fake) to give hope.

It takes the 12 seconds before the spinny thing comes up... and the spinny thing doesnt give much hope anyways. I see that on my mac right before it crashes.

I really hope GS does something about this. Its easy to forget that the average person doesnt allow forgiveness. They dont know we are in beta or even care. they just want the app to work.

I toop have now seen a couple people frantically tapping my iphone when i show them my game like something is wrong.

One person even handed it back before it loaded and said... isnt working.

This is an impatient generation and itunes community (including myself) is the epitome of it all. :P

When I first played a GS game I got out of it because I thought it froze. If their was a loading bar or something I would have waited a couple more seconds for sure which in result would have loaded the game. Great forum post as usual tiny.

When I had people test out my games and they started up the game they would wait 5 seconds and really start pressing the play button over and over!
So this is what I did...
I made an Image that said loading...
When you pressed the play button the loading image would appear before it switched scenes...
This would have the player know that it is still loading!
But gamesald load times have to speed up!
  • JamesZeppelinJamesZeppelin Member Posts: 1,927
Yes yes exactly. That's what I meant by even if it's fake. A black screen with a little writing is why so many people don't wait.

    However.

I know gs can track data in our apps like how many times it opens how long people play. It would be tough to gather proper data if the program doesn't get far enough to load the gatherer.

Given what sounds likens good amount of us who have seen furst hand friends etc just close it and say it's frozen I'm sure the issue is being addrssed.

Can we all pretty much agree it's nit the actual load time but rather the black screen?

The load time would obviously better if it was lower, however, if its not/cant be lowered then there must be an indication that it is loading. First time i played a GS game i thought it had crashed and exited, i had only played stuff made via xcode and had never had to wait!
