edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
Thought I'd quickly post and see how excited people are getting about the potentially revolutionary and potentially disappointing new Apple iSlate / ipad (or whatever).

Is it simple going to be a cool way to surf the web around the home, whilst on the loo?

Will it be a touch screen that changes so you can feel where buttons are?

Will we be able to make games for it using GameSalad?

Find out what it is tomorrow from Apple...(or probably Thursday morning in the UK)...

Everyone at my work is talking about it all 6 of us use Macs to edit video on at work, we now all have iphones (as of 2 weeks ago) so its a bit of a Mac geek fest at the moment.

What are your thoughts....

(Oh and I got an email from apple last night saying the status of my app had changed...I got very excited only to see it had changed from 'pending review' to 'in review'....still very exciting.

You should have tweaked the poll to "are you going to buy one?" I for one would buy it only for development testing, but since it's likely to have a souped-up version of the iPhone's processor, that means GS and the rest of Mac OS X won't run on it. So, it looks like I'll be buying a MacBook/MacBook Pro instead, or at least, first.

Yeah im with you on getting a macbook

Although the first thing i wanna get once i can justify it is the pro membership.
I really wanna link my stuff

I have two free apps doing over 800 and 500 Downloads per day and linking my 99c game seems huge... thats over 1000 impressions per day

Starting at $499 and optional 3G pay-as-you-need wireless plan (in addition to the built in WiFi) while still maintaining backward App Store app compatibility. Sounds a winner! Productivity software too.

    - No camera
    - Cant run mac apps
    - No OLED
    - No multitasking

Its just a bigger ipod touch with a few more features!

Well I was needing a netbook for college, but I just might go with this now. And if a GameSalad update to work with iPad resolutions comes out soon that would be amazing. We can be some of the first to have games on it and overprice the !@#$% out of them! :p

I am SO getting one. I love it. I do wish it had a front facing camera for skype though =(

Maybe there will be an accessory at some time for it.
  • rebumprebump Member Posts: 1,058
    @Eastbound: hehe

With all the new GUI menu pieces being introduced for this form factor, you could probably develop an app like GS on it since the conversion to Xcode could still handled off device (i.e. at Gendai) or could you get by letting it run in mobile Safari...plug-ins support?! That would be pretty sweet to develop apps on the go ON THE DEVICE (and test immediately if it ran in mobile Safari). Have a good painting program combined with all the existing audio apps, you have a portable design studio. Just dreamin'!

@JGary321: In typical Apple fashion, the next version will get the camera to make you want to buy it even though you just plunked down the cash for the 1st gen iPad a year before. Oh well. As long as the camera sucks it will make it not worth it. If they put a nice 5+ megapixel in it with flash or a dual camera setup for Skype, then, uh, our pocketbooks are effed. I was anti-Apple until my work gave me an iPhone and I 'discovered' app building...stupid Apple! (I mean that in a good way...except for the pocketbook.)

    When is it out?
  • rebumprebump Member Posts: 1,058
In 60 days for WiFi only versions and 90 days for WiFi+3G
  • iDeveloperziDeveloperz Member Posts: 1,169
Do you think apple will improve it within those 60 days?
  • BeyondtheTechBeyondtheTech Member Posts: 809
I would have SOOO wanted that keyboard dock for the iPhone. Who knows, they might add it in the next iPhone OS firmware.

That being said, I think I'll give my wife an iPad and take her MacBook instead of buying a new one.
  • rebumprebump Member Posts: 1,058
It would be awesome if they snuck a camera in at the last minute and an SMS/MMS app for the 3G model but not sure if that would work with it not officially being a phone device.
  • iDeveloperziDeveloperz Member Posts: 1,169
Yeh i would really like the camera.
  • JGary321JGary321 Member Posts: 1,246
I'm thinking we'll be seeing a 3rd party peripheral for the camera. Skype may even make one, you never know.

Wow this thread has grown quick. Just watched ipad video. Looks pretty damn cool. It looks like a digital picture frame that can do so so so much more. Love the fact our apps/slash games will work and that we could potentially eventually build higher res apps specially for it. I wonder if we sold an iPhone version whether they could download the ipad version for free too? Either way give it a few years and maybe we will stop talking about apple and all their damn cool stuff.!

I'm buying it, but i'm just pissed that the black part of the iPad is so thick, i thought it would be a bit more flushed than that.
  • rebumprebump Member Posts: 1,058
Plenty of room for your thumbs though.
  • StormyStudioStormyStudio United KingdomMember Posts: 3,989
Yeah I thought the black bit would be thinner after seeing those cool 3d renders of what it could have looked like on gizmondo and other sites
