Dear GameSalad,

edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
23 crashes I've had this week and the last one f***ed my whole game. None of the rules worked, just a black screen when previewing the game. I have spent hours and money making my game all for nothing.

I have always wanted to make games for iPhone but haven't got a clue about code. One day I downloaded a game Called Running Wild and it said GameSalad on it. I thought that was the developer so I checked it out on Google for other games and couldn't believe that its was a drag and drop creator that makes games without using lines on code.
So I looked more into it and thought this is it, so went and bought a brand new Mac, installed GameSalad and here I am 3 months later very disappointed!

And yet there are plenty of people who can get on and finish and submit games just fine.

While the software has its bugs and quirks (as does any software), surely the buck stops with you?

For example - I've been working on several games - not had a single crash all week (or the last few months actually), and none of them got f***ed.

And yet we both use the same software.

It's a shame :( You had such a good game on your hands.

I find it hard to believe you are having issues with a brand new mac running Snow leopard. I have a feeling you are running lion or are running a brand new PC/hackintosh.

I hear ya, VeiraOne. I have made a point of backing up my backups and backing those up from there.
I had to rebuild my game as well. I think the update was 9.3 which completely broke everything. Sorry for your trouble, but don't give up! GameSalad is a very useful tool.

    I do understand your frustration.

Tenrdrmer, Michael should not be the one to blame if he is running Lion. Lion betas have been out for months & it is GameSalad's fault the Creator is not fully compatible, not his for updating to official Apple software.

I had Gamesalad on my Mac before Lion came out. Yes I have upgraded to Lion but GameSalad was working fine until now. I will start again but just letting people know what can happen all of a sudden.

Please note, the GameSalad team said not to upgrade.

    AFTER LION WAS RELEASED.

Am I the only one that is not having problems at all with Lion? I updated the OS first thing when it came out and I haven't noticed any bugs, crashes or slow downs with GS. Have you checked your code or your rules? maybe small error crashed the whole thing.

common next gen its common sense. It never said compatible with lion, thats what matters. Microsoft did the same thing. Anyone that upgraded did so at there own risk because it never said it was compatible for lion. There fault for assuming. Thats liek saying gamesalad should run on windows cause it doesnt say not for windows

Looks like I should of stopped everything I was doing just to go on the forum to read that.
    Oh well, happy days!

Well at least I know what I'm doing now so shouldn't take me too long. Also gives me more practice, perhaps will learn something new.

Really? I mean Really? Dd GameSalad say they supported Lion? Did they? NO!!!!!!!!!
The day Lion was released Someone asked if GameSalad supported Lion and I Personally said NO GameSalad does not support Lion. Some have used with no issues But the Official answer is NO. So yes if lion is the issue then he is to blame. Just the same as if Jailbreaking your phone screws it up. Its not Apples Fault cause they don't support it. GameSalad doesn't support it yet. And the OMG Shock of 23 Crashes after they have publicly posted they do not support it should be no surprise.

Gamesalad + Lion = your F***ed. I get it now, Thank you very much.
YES it may be my fault for not having my faced glued to the forums just to read http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=28334

But I can always start again not a problem. The whole point of this post was to let people know what can happen to your game all of a sudden. So read below

GamersRejoice is specially right: Remember that though GS is a great tool, it is still in beta and it's prone to bugs/crashing. Good luck with your game.

I started a few months ago, just just released Martian Rescue ! And I also have a FT job , and a family.

The time you save will save you money in the long run.

I use an external hard drive to store everything, prolly the safest thing you could do to combat crash's.

I have to admit GS is crashing less and less and I think I work it hard.

    Stick with it !

Hope You Make the Code again and make it Better :D

I Upgrade To Lion, and haven't have any slow down, and no more than 3 crashes. (On Snow Leopard it did never crush)

But Now, I Really save a LOT of versions, and not online on my iMAc, I also backup on time machine and with Dropbox!

    Cheers.

Its funny that everyone upgraded to Lion right away. As a former PC user, I was always aware that all of my software wouldn't be immediately compatible with the next version of Windows. It always took time for the software to catch up. I didn't notice anything particularly great about Lion that made me rush out and upgrade. Maybe I missed something.

Have you sent your project file into support? They're slow right now, but in the past they've helped me recover a messed up project.

Time machine is a good idea. I prefer to do it manually with dropbox though. Then you can include the major changes you've made in the file name, and not have to worry about hardware failure like ts said.

While lion is not supported, I did use gamesaad to finish a long way home exclusively on lion for the last few weeks. It did crash more often, but it worked fine.
  • gamedivisiongamedivision Member Posts: 807
gamesalad was working fine for me on lion until last night then it crashed about 20 times in a row so i gave up and switched off.
