You know, all the staff hears from us are complaints.

But there's a lot of things right with gamesalad. It's actually a pretty amazing piece of software.

"The Cult of GameSalad" ;-) There's something special about it, isn't there?

    it is awesome indeed.

(but it'll be more awesome if they didn't charge me $500, for not much of anything)

insufficient description for the pro package. thought i'd be getting more than the perks that's there.

For example, you can use custom splash screen alright, but the resolution is low, and the iPad version has 1 millisecond display of the splash, no video splash allowed.
the video file is still in the published file even though it should have been removed.
the hyperlink does not allow easy switch back to the app.....

i could go on but hey this thread is for talking about the greatness of GS, so let's keep it that way.
(by the way the real problem is not that pro package is not worth it, it's because of the skewed value, compared to the free version, I find that i run into the same issue with my app, offering too much for the free version and not a whole lot more for paid, and once it's up and running the only way to fix it is to add more features for the paid version.. otherwise you'll have all the free users ditch you.)

so all in all i'm still saying it's great software...

essentially Gamesalad is paying you $500 per year infinitely.. to advertise their platform.. how's that.. sounds better? ;)

    sorry my english....

i just have one thing to say, and that is that Gamesalad is the only way tha im found to develop my ideas by myself, just studing a little, i have 36, and learn basic in inteligent keyboard(remember) turbopascal, a little delphi and nothing more for years, i try to learn c, lua, etc.., and is not work for a month, with defects and victorys, is the only way for us the non programmers. I have read, every word in posts, i have watch, every tutorial in gamesalad, youtube, etc.., and have a lot of ideas, maybe god ideas, maybe bad ideas, and maybe next week buy my fist mac. Is my obbligation to say that i contacted(phone,mail,etc..) every company that announce in internet that they develop your idea, sometimes share a royalty, others you pay for services($$$$$$$$) and keep the wrhrigts over the idea, i have try every thing, and no one convince me like GameSalad, i think is the best, and im not buy a mac yet.

I agree it is a skewed value, the free version is pretty powerful. Most companies policy would let you get hooked on the software, and not let you publish until you paid up.
It's pretty amazing Gamesalad lets you publish for free.

I think part of charging for the handful of pro features. Is those features distinguish the sort of people who generate an income with Gamesalad vs a casual hobbyist.
And if someone is making a (hopefully) income with their software, and using their support staff, it's fair that you should pay up.

It's not said enough, is it?

I just renewed my dev license for iOS with Apple - this will be my third year making iphone games pretty soon - something I could never have imagined all that time ago!

Yes they've made some mistakes, and yes there are things I would like to come sooner. GameCenter Achievements for one. Add to that stuff like social networking features, and arrays.

I think they've got their priorities wrong for upcoming features too.

But I wouldn't be here making games if it wasn't for the ease of use of GameSalad.

As each game gets made, I learn more. As I learn more, better games get made. And I'm always learning.

And creative people can get around the 'limitations'. Some have made adventure games, for example. Some have made card games, without arrays. That's quite an accomplishment!

At the end of the day, it's a great enabler. And the only limit is you.

Yeah the support is lackluster to say the least. In the last six months I have sent several bug report type things with a request. for some sort of answer to through the contact form and bugs@gamesalad.com Only once have I ever received a response and that took lots of teeth pulling and bugging GS higher ups to light a fire under someones ass. The nice thing is by the time they finally got around to someone in that department respond to me they responded with a fixed project file and an explanation of where I had made a mistake in my logic. (had a couple things not quite right and just kept looking over them.) So yeah they need a definite Pro Support Form available to the pro users for a more direct reporting and response system.

As far as how to get priority Support now. You need to make sure in your message to GS you state you are a pro user. You "should" get a response within 24 hours. and no thats no posted somewhere. thats what I was told how the pro support should work by a GS staffer in my grips about the report I I talked about earlier.
