You can make an adhoc for yourself obviously but how can I send that game to a friend? How do you get promo codes?

    No. You have to get their device ID and add it to your Apple dev provisioning and then get a cert that you send to them with the ad-hoc. They drop the cert on itunes, and then the app and it will then both will work for 3 months on their device.
