Actor Alpha help

I've looked at the wiki on causing an image(actor) to fade in or out. I have a 480 X 320 background image that I've placed on screen as an actor. Adjusting the alpha values from 0 to .5 to 1 has no effect at all. The image is 100% visible.

The code from the wiki also has no effect. I added a layer on top of a black background thinking the alpha change would allow some black to show through - no luck. Any thoughts?

    its a defect in the released build. Some images it works. The next build has fixed it.

    OK, thanks. I was able to achieve a fade by affecting the red, green and blue properties. The image I have is a .jpg - I suppose I could try a .png to see if that's the "Some images" referred to above. :)
