Size for background on ipad

I want to make a background image for my ipad app and i was wondering what size this should be (im going to use photoshop)

    3d10 is correct - 1024 x 768 is the screen size of the iPad. If you want to use panning of images, or tile images to make a large "field", the real maximum size of each image is 1024 x 1024.

    Always 72dpi. One surefire way to save images out from Photoshop is to use Save for Web... > PNG-24 (don't forget to check Transparency if you have any transparent parts to the image). Make sure all your other image dimensions are divisible by 2 as well.
