Tips on getting your game reviewed

First off I want to say thanks to the support that we receive from the Gamesalad community. We love seeing games that you send us and we wish we could review everyone but we don’t have the man power to cover every title. We get on average anywhere from 30-70ish requests a week.
I wanted to put together a few suggestions of Do’s and Don’ts when trying to get your game noticed on a review site. These are either things that grab my attention or worse cause my eyes to glaze over.
The list is not in any particular order and please add your ideas in this thread. I just thought it might help to see what a review site might look for when looking at review requests.
-sure we’re the new kids on the block but we’ve got some great website stats
-Another thing, I can’t stand sites that charge for a review. Very scammy to me and suggest that you avoid these. If you put together a good review request you can get get reviews for free. Brokeindieguys.com put together a great list.
Here I Go!
*Don’t Tweet something like “Can you review my game?”. Put some effort into asking. Send us info (not through twitter)... like the games name! You would be shocked by how many times people tweet us with out even saying anything about the game. Including the Title! It’s rare if we do the leg work to find out if it’s worth it or not. Don’t expect us to do all the leg work. Help us out.
*Do email review sites! Things that should be included: game title, snapshots, and game description. Have it be a quick synopsis. If you describe a game of tic tac toe in 10 pages I can guarantee most people won’t read everything.
*Promo codes are good! Extra promo codes for us to give away even better. Even if we don’t review it, we’ll most likely give them away on twitter or something similar. Basically a free twitter advertisement ##small disclaimer: giving away codes helps us out as well. We get more people following us on twitter etc waiting for promo codes.
*Do a youtube video. Very recently a dev emailed us and we almost past up the review but he included a video in the email. We watched it and realized that the screenshots don’t do the game justice. So yeah, he did extra legwork showing us why we should review his game. We love that! (his game is a gamesalad game)
*Do send us preview material! If we preview your game, you’re almost guaranteed a review once it’s released. Include lots of stuff when asking for a preview. We personally love it when we get a beta
*Don’t email us 20 times asking us for a review! A couple times sure...but I prefer one.
That’s it for now! I hope this helps some people get more game reviews!
Cheers!
