iPhone 4/Retina Display resolution images question

If you are creating a game compatible with retina display/iPhone 4, does this mean that basically every image, from background to characters etc, should be double the pixel size it would be for iPhone 3 if you want that extra detail?

The iPhone 4 retina display is of a same physical size of its predecessors, however the screen resolution is double. The iPhone 3/3GS has a screen resolution of 480x320 pixels, therefore the retina resolution is 960x640 and this is the same for all controls and images etc.

I am fairly new to GameSalad but I believe you create your project using the art work at the higher resolution and then check the 'Resolution Independence' box in your game and it renders it all correctly for both device types.
