Resolution?

So, I'm creating my game with "resolution independence" on and I'm wondering if this is a good idea. I'm assuming that the porting to iPad will be easier & I can export to either iPhone or iPad using the same project. Is that true?

Resolution Independence activates Retina Display, causing your imported images to appear smaller. In a way it does make it easier to make an iPad version of your game by allowing you to use the proper-sized images and changing the target platform to iPad, followed by doing minor modifications to your game.

Hi: It can make it easier as 11oclock said; but realise the following: the iPhone images, when using RI, need to be twice as large as seen image size, as you know. The width of landscape iPhone, for instance, is 480, the width of iPad landscape is 1024. So it's more than double the width of the iPhone, so using the double-sized imaged for use with RI are still not big enough for the iPad, scaleable-wise.

It's always best - if you are considering an app/game for both platforms, to make the iPad graphics first, and scale accordingly for the iPhone (RI used or not); not the other way around.

Or if you are thinking that perhaps, just maybe, you'll be doing an iPad version in the future - so you won't actually make the game there first but still a consideration for a later date - then again, make the master graphics more than twice the size of the iPhone versions; so you've got the best of both worlds then.

Another consideration for you perhaps: iPad 3 with Resolution Independence in March next year? (Maybe, just maybe...) Master images even larger...

Thanks guys... I'm using the iPad res as my standard & making all the graphics @ 1024. I'm banking on the hopes that they'll still look OK with the new iPad res. We'll see I guess.
