Shouldn't we call it THIEF SALAD ?

I'm ChocoRun's developer and I really don't want to write a lot as I may sound really pissed off, I really am.

I was on ThiefSalad before and this community has so much to learn... anyway, take a look at my game:
http://itunes.apple.com/app/chocorun/id435292025?mt=8

And now take a look at the last creation from ThiefSalad:
http://itunes.apple.com/app/awesome-super-boy/id454974259?mt=8

Now, what would you do? I'm not going to stop until this is out of the store.

Thank god I switched to a serious community (Corona, for those of you that don't know).

This community always frowns upon and stands up against copyright infringement and generally poor morals. Sad to see this happen.

Have you contacted apple or the other developer and asked for it's removal?

Looking at this guys other titles 'Angry zombie birds' and 'Ninja Jump' it seems he just copies the hard work of others.

**Edit** just noticed this is a template republish.

Really people shouldn't be making templates that are the same as someone else's game. The template itself should be removed from sale as well.

Would it help to complain at Apple?
This is really sad. But it happens.
I would be pissed too but don't blame gs.
There are loads of good people here too.

    Cheers!

It's kind off laughable that you come here and accuse people off ripping of your game idea, when in reality you ripped off Super Meat Boy which was released late last year on PC, and Xbox live later.

    Link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Meat_Boy

Also unless the developer started to work on his shortly after your game came out, he would have had less then 4 weeks to finish the game, while maybe doable, highly unlikely.

So please go go back to where you came from.

Edit: while I don't agree with template publishing, you can't copyright an idea.

And finally, to accuse the whole community for it, just show what a narrow minded person you are.

to mr choco run:. really sad, but the community actually promotes it without realizing, some even camp on ripping off games to make money. it's prone to happen when "game creation" becomes so easy, people who doesn't have a lot of resource just start to take what's available. the reason that there's less of rip-off on corona platform is probably because people realize that if they are gonna spend so much time with development, and coding there's no point copying another game. But even with objective C i noticed so many people just took the sample code from apple and post it up to sell, so thief salad sounds a bit racist haha.

but (to ourselves) ... guys it's ok to pay tribute to an old game, it's not ok to rip off new ones...

to choco run again: but like all platform there are some who works extremely hard to come up with original games. like the two chap above. i know what you mean by a more serious community, i went on their IRC and wow those guys are more professional, serious and mature. I felt right at home...

to our community again: so i wish this community will continue to grow (and stop finding excuses for being immature or being beta). Most of the game development are sort of in beta as well. this is still a growing industry and everyone's in their infancy stage, some just gets it faster than the others.

while i haven't play those games, what he's accusing does have some grounds since the game in question looks like a poorly copied verbatim. and even if choco run is inspired by meat boy it does have a slightly different interoperation. in the art world it's ok to re-interprete an original, but attempting to copy an original is a different story.. he gave it a new look, the game play looks less complex than meat boy, so i wouldn't say that he ripped it off, that's like calling king of fighters a rip off of street fighter.

Coming from a casual PC background and making games for Big Fish Games for eg there was always clones and clones of the clones....look at all the hidden object/adventure games and diner dash clones.

Puzz Loop was released 5 years before Pop Caps Zuma so even the big boys make clones.

I am sorry this is happening to you. Perhaps the karmic fairy will one day 'dish out', but life does not guarantee such a thing. There is a chance they will move on to paparazzi photography, estate agency, corporate law, politics... or banking. But I doubt it, as there seems to be a lack of imagination even in approach to current output. Much more likely would be a dull decline into a life as corner shop dispenser, steaming the date expired labels off cup cakes and cheese.

Yeh gotta say I feel for you, but surely being a developer of any degree you'd know you cant copyright concept? Therefore, in theory, theres nothing you can do about the gameplay mechanics being the same as yours. I mean, come on, in some form or another, 95+% of games are remakes of another.

However, i dont agree on the icon looking the same as yours and just general graphics being copied. If concept is going to be copied then at very least the whole look of the game should be changed!

As for tarnishing this whole community with one brush ... tut tut

Just contacted with the developer and he is taking that down from the App Store, so hopefully this will end nicely.

I'm sorry for such a bad post, I was out of my mind for a while... but in the end, it got the attention i was searching for.

Thank you for your words and understanding, we have a game totally inspired in super meat boy, that's true, but it has its own gameplay, character, levels, and everything :) So if you want, enjoy a good run with it!

+1. Remember, when you get dissed on an online chatroom, its best to count to 10 and lose the anger before you post anything new. Otherwise people take this totally out of context.

His graphics are different and so are the layouts to his levels. The main character is pretty similar to yours but it's not like your the first one to make a game where the main character is a box with legs. Unless you provided him with the source code/files from your game I'd say that he's about as legally and morally in the wrong as you are for attempting to clone Super meat boy.

I agree that stealing is wrong but your being completely hypocritical.

I really counted to 100 when I saw a template for making a ChocoRun game selling here, you can see my posts are very measured in there.

But this game... just made me explode... I really am sorry for being such a jerk, but couldn't control myself no more.

lol Just imagine how the makers of Super meat boy feel when they see games like Cheeseman and ChocoRun then. They are the only ones in these type of situations that have any right to be angry.

You know... ChocoRun was born as a tribute for SMB, I was a little pissed when Team Meat decided not to port it to the iPhone because 'controls couldn't work' and had pretty hard times trying to figure out how a good game could transmit the same feelings with adequate touch screen controls.

You can say it's inspired on SMB, because it's what it is. But it's not a copy on any way.

There are plenty more options if you want a SMB experience on the iPhone, just like Cheeseman and Don't Die to mention a couple. But every game has its own personality and gameplay so yeah, all unique.

This was just a copy paste, and that is clear just at first sight.

just for info , i contacted SMB team before even publishing anything in public about CheeseMan , and now i'm in the way to make things official with them . also SMB is not the first platformer ever made ;).

At first I thought you had gone a little overboard with your angry post. Then I realized who we were talking about. Clockwork Shark Studios is/are? big jerk(s). Angry Zombie Birds? NinjaJump? Even his customers hate his games guts!

    I'll just leave this here.

"Mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery."

I know that it's very difficult to follow, but it's true. If someone makes a clone of your game, that means they liked it. However, it also means the creator has no creativity.

Unfortunately there are worthless people like this are in it all for the money and nothing else. We have several people here that definitely fit that description and we try to call them out as much as possible when they reveal through their actions that they are this type of person who will stop at nothing to make a buck. But it is most certainly irresponsible and unfair to label the entire community as Thieves because of this.

We don't condone ripping off other peoples games and i'm sure you will say GameSalad doesn't do enough to prevent it but flip the coin. lets say gamesalad required their approval of each project before it was sent back as a distributable app. you would be furious you have to deal with the BS of more approval and people holding their thumb over your freedom of doing what ever the hell you want.

So in the future when you have an issue like this the right thing to do is contact apple and the developer instead of come here and accuse the major of people here with good morals and ethics of all being thief's because they use this software. When in reality this software is just on of many tools rip off developers use to publish junk.

tenrdrmer You are totally right, I've said I'm sorry for that but for you and all this community: my most sincere apologies again. I was out of my mind and that's not how I usually react to things that happen.

Really sorry, this won't happen again.

I dont see any benefit of this one getting beat to death for the next few days.
