It seems that a new wave is building... there might be some crazy stuff ahead for developers like us.
First up... A "FREE" iPHONE?!

It's just a rumor, but it certainly makes a lot of sense to me. Wow... that could be a lot of new iOS users out there... but what does this tell us developers? I think the message is, "Think small!" After launching BOT, I learned that a lot of players don't like large apps. What if Apple is launching an iPhone that has less memory and depends more on iCloud for storage? I think players will still try to cram lots of apps on their limited storage devices. So, if this new device launches with 16 GB or even 8 GB of storage space, I think that means space will be at a premium. Players might become even more reluctant to download large apps. Sure, with iCloud, the storage limit is theoretically unlimited... but unfortunately, bandwidth is becoming very much limited. Both AT&T and Verizon have moved away from unlimited plans.
Combine this with something else... HTML 5... there's a limit on the size of those apps. It's 20 MB. I don't know about you, but that's my current limit. I just see too many reasons to keep the project within that size limit.
Now some of you might be thinking, "But Mike... I don't care about HTML 5." You might want to start thinking differently about that...
Google and Facebook seem to be gearing up for a battle over games. According to a Business Insider Article... http://venturebeat.com/2011/08/11/take-that-facebook-google-commission-on-game-transactions-is-5-percent-not-30-percent/ ...the in-game transaction commission will only be 5%. If you've been following the Freemium trend, that seems to be a growing section of gaming. If GameSalad HTML 5 games can be exported to the Google+ social games platform, that might be a new boon for developers.
