It's my Sister's birthday next week and what I'd like to do is create a simple app to help promote her new business venture.

She's working damn hard on the project so she can quit her day job.

The business she has setup is to make and sell hand made childrens chairs. They really are very cool chairs (we got a free one for our 1 year old daughter) and aimed at the grandparents/rich parents market. Check out her site, there is a cute story behind each chair based around 'Little Hog Lane' and the hedgehogs that live there.

What simple app idea do you think I could make, something like a simple sound board with links to her site...I only want to spend around 10 hours making it...

I want it to be a surprise.

Any ideas?

Hi Jon, lovely quality chairs; they'd be great resized for adult too, I reckon.

With the consideration that children would play the app, possible (hopefully) with a parent looking over their shoulder so they might click on the website link, my idea for the app is based on musical chairs.

A line of chairs (maybe 6 or 8, alternating with the two chair models); instead of children (on-screen) there are 6 or 8 hedgehogs. Then a different coloured hedgehog for the user to move, back and forth over the line of chairs while music is playing. When the music stops, all the hedgehogs jump onto the chairs, and the idea is for the user to drag their hedgehog to a chair before they're all filled. (You know.... er, musical chairs!)

If the user gets to a chair seat (... maybe can't drag anywhere near a chair while the music is playing...) then, just like in the real-world game, a chair and a hedgehog is removed, until there's just one chair, one hedgehog and the user hedgehog left to play.. Could be a score penalty for not keeping the hedgehog moving while the music is playing.

    :-)

I think It depends on what you want: Something that the kids want to play, or something the adults will be looking at. A game is obviously going to take more time than just a simple advertisement app.

I love the ideas that TheMoonwalls and gyroscope had. They would both work really well. It just depends on which approach you want to market the company with.

By the way, the chairs look INCREDIBLE!

    Hope this helps

    cheers guys...love both ideas...

I'll think over it for a bit...maybe make a simple advertising app first then lamp on a game idea to give it some longevity.

Maybe I can just offer the app creation as a present to my sister...though that wont have the same SURPRISE!!! factor...

Goldilocks and the chair that was just right comes to mind. Nice chairs indeed, as the others have commented.
