This has been surprisingly hard for me as well. I do all of my art on the iPad, save it to photos and then send it to my Mac. My files are png but I still end up with the white square border.
I am now messing with Pixelmator to see what I can do to remove the white square. I am a noob with this stuff, I am sure it is simple for most people.
like beefy said you need a transparent background. Thats it. Goggle it for whatver software your using

Hi, I'd be really surprised if any art/photo app on the iPad supports alpha transparency...
I checked out Pixelmator recently (even tho' I use Photoshop); looked interesting with so many standard filters supplied, considering it's cheap price; but as far as I could gather, Pixelmator still doesn't support alpha.
