Best way to make a game play video?

richcoyrichcoy Member Posts: 211
Hello,

I know how to take game screen shots on the device itself but what is the best way to capture some game play in video format?

What software works best, on a budget?

Thanks.

Rich

You could use the quick time player to do a screen recording for free, but it doesn't record sound. Sound Stage also works. I use Screenflow to do all of my screenrecording, personally I like it the best. But it isn't so cheap.

Here is a page to do a screencast and upload it to youtube or download it to your pc - it´s free!

My personal experience screen capturing with Quicktime is that it is quite jittery, and probably not to a level that you want to sell a game on. My laptop is an early 2008 Macbook Pro though, so perhaps newer models do a better job.

Thanks for the input guys. I found a trial version of Screenium that will suit my needs. Its only limitation is 30 seconds of recording at a time but you can show a lot of game play in 30 seconds and I can edit together several clips if I need to.

It'll let you define an area of the screen to capture and record the system audio so I'm just playing the game inside the GameSalad creator and recording the results. Works well.

I personally prefer Snapz Pro X. Here is a movie I did using Snapz Pro X and iMovie. They work great together!
