Game box

JoVeJoVe Member Posts: 224
I have made some games but they don't sell good.
I have the idea to make a Game Box with this games(I use GS project merger).
I would add this games to the box and sell it for 1,59(Tier 2).
-French Cookie Match: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/french-cookie-match/id453442900
-FIsh and Sharks: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fish-and-sharks/id452515333
-Defendro: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/defendro/id457883207
-Rocks!: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/rocks-game/id450187000
-And one other game, that I don't show!

What do you think? Would you buy it?

Sorry, to say. No I wouldn't buy it.

The graphics on the screenshots look really not good. I would spend your time doing a project slowly and carefully to get it to a more professional standard.

also creating your own graphics is a good idea, or hire a designer, but you use templates as they are.

My problem is I don't know a designer, Yes on the internet but that's too expensive.
I make some graphics self but the they are not good.

What do you think as the box costs tier 1?

I think you need to work harder on your games and make them better. Or start fresh and make a new game.

Not quality or good . Besides the fact your just submitting templates. Would you buy them?

I think you get out of it what you have put in. You taken some templates and published them with little effort. Ergo.. No one buys it. Wont matter how many templates you pack into on project its not gonna change anything. Nothing wrong with using templates but you have got to put in the effort to make it your own game. Meaning customizing it and putting in artwork. The template is a starting point not a finished product. If you suck at art and cannot afford art then you better figure out how to make some really cool game that an artist will be willing to split the sales with you. Cause you are not gonna sell much without them.

I would have to agree with tenrdrmer here. The graphics are just lacking in the quality that is now required on the App Store now. And the fact that you are submitting templates is not only morally wrong, (those are put there to help, not to sell in the app store incomplete) but just not good business. You have to take templates and at least add your own spin on them for them to have a chance at being successful.

Whats the secret game!?!?!?! I'll pay tier 10 for the secret game... Seriously thou don't expect people to buy a game if you don't tell them what it is.

Would you pay 10 buck to go to the movies if the theater doesn't tell you what move is playing?

I think John's question touches the core of the issue. I think it much like people playing in bands that they would never buy the music of, but still expecting others to love their music and success. The passion and detail that people do put into games is very obvious.

If you feel you can't manage complex art, then think laterally. Push what you can do and use simple graphics if you can't afford or find someone to work with you. Darren has done games that are just simple game generated graphics but the gameplay is fantastic. Just circles and squares can be enough, if the play is great and some thought is put into the way the design will look. There is also no reason why you can't use photographic images to create sprites if you want something visually richer, but this in itself takes care and thought (I recently built a game with a friend's son where we videoed their dog and cut out each frame of walks, runs, jumps, etc to build the sprites and it looked very good, but again it took care, time, and thought to sort it out).

All in all, I would have good think about really making things that have a chance. Work to strengths, and you can succeed. But hold the thought of what would really be cool, interesting, and fun. You may not sell a million but you will learn and enjoy things much more in the making, and with each project move on to a higher level.

Than a question, have anyone a idea for a nice game without very good graphics?

Would not buy for all reasons mentioned above. There are a lot of good artists on these forums who charge very reasonably but lets face it, if you're prepared to spend a small amount of money on your games, you cant expect the masses to buuy it and make you lots of money ... it just will not work

I like to make my own game with simple graphics, but I don't have a idea.
    Have anyone a idea?

Check that first game out. The graphics are just white and black boxes mostly. You just need to make a fun game.

I understand but that game is very expensive.
I could try to make it self.
    Are there more ideas?

That was just an example of what you can do with simple graphics. I am horrible at graphics too. I use a basic MS Paint like program called Paintbrush, and use the basic controls in GIMP. To do all my graphics. Making basic graphics are really easy to make. All you need is a basic paint program, imagination, GS, and a game idea.

Also don't ask anyone for ideas. If anyone does get one they will keep it to themselves (most likely). You need to think yourself instead of getting other people to do the work for you. Also if you spend money on templates then you should be able to spend money on graphics instead. I personally have never bought a template even free ones I rarely get. You need to get your own ideas, you won't survive in the app store off of other people's.
