I wanted to know what is it I will need as tools to start working on developing apps. I already downloaded Game Salad. I been watching some of the cookbooks. I have a 2nd generation iTouch as far as testing and fixing any bugs go.

But will I need Photoshop to create my drawings or a Wacom Tablet to draw them? And creating music for my game what type of software? I'm very familiar with Reason. Also if there is anything on the App. Store I may need that would help cause I got $100 gift card for purchasing the iMac.

The only thing you NEED is a Developer Account from Apple 99 USD and Xcode.

Then with Gamesalad you can make games.

How you do music or graphics is up to you.

I PErsonall outsource Music and sounds, and I have a partner that make graphics, and i Code.

    Cheerss.

You sound just like me--iMac, 2nd gen itouch, confused. :)

I use Kevin MacLeod's free music--google it--it's in the public domain, meaning you can use it however you like (I usualy credit him, but I don't think it's required). Besides GS, xcode (you'll need $99 for the apple dev subscription), and Inkscape for graphics. It's free.

Good luck on your games. And welcome to being (at least almost) an iOS developer.

If you want to publish to the iOS app store you need an iOS developers account from apple. It costs $99 per year. You will need some software. If you don't want to spend any money on Phtoshop then http://www.gimp.org/ is a good alternative. You dont necessarily need a tablet but they do help in some cases. As for music, garageband is what I use. If you want to purchase music then http://audiojungle.net/ is a good site. If you want free music then http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/index.html?genre=Polka is what alot of people here use. You can also use http://thirdcog.eu/apps/cfxr to create sound effects ect.

for music I normally buy cheap tracks from revostock.com

Make my own graphics using Photoshop and Illustrator

    Animate using After Effects

Record and mess around with sound with SoundTrack Pro

Edit promo videos using Final Cut Pro

Use AppViz to monitor sales with more detail that iTunes connect.

iShowU to record your computer screen for sharing progress videos and making promo videos

Thanks guys! Yeah I been waiting for months to buy this iMac and now that I have it and Game Salad...I'm like whats next? Haha but I'll definitely look into these sites and programs you guys mention. And yeah I do need to to get my Developer Account.

I figured once I release some free games and get my name out, I would outsource graphics and programming, like what Nicolas does

Dont spend your money on the Developer Account until you have played with gamesalad are ready to start testing your game. Its a subscription so no needs to burn a few months and not even use it.

Good idea Ten, I'll finish watching the cookbook videos and mess around with it. I seen some templates on Game Salad one that is from Galaga and another one with a cannon ball, can I use these for backgrounds for my actual games?

Also I was thinking about purchasing the App School for $20 that teaches you how to code and publish on the App Store, is it worth it?

Yea, I didn't buy mine until my app was almost all the way finished. It's just a waste of money if you do.

is it possible to test a app on a hacked ipad without a dev account? i don´t really see a reason to get a 99$ account if i don´t publish atm

Legally, no. Someone on this forum once brought up how do it it, but that thread was closed, because it violates Apple's policies. You don't want to do that.
