Letter under icon

How many letters can you fit under your icon be for you start getting dots?
And is it diffrent on the iphone and ipad

I have no idea, but I think that you shouldn't put any words in the icon - just take a look on icons from the Top Paid Apps - almost none of them has title/word in the icon.

No he means under the icon, such as where it says the name of the app.

Under Angry Birds it says 'Angry Birds', Plants V Zombies says 'PvZ' because if he wrote Plants Versus Zombies it would say Plants...Zomb or something like that.

He's asking how many characters can he place until he starts to get dots.

I am not sure of how many you can have, I recommend you run an adhoc & see if yours fits. If not, shorten it.

Keep in mind that in can vary. For example i takes up less space then w. So always test first to be exact, but yeah 12 is a good number to stay around.
