Anyone ever been hosed by prMac?

So my press release went out this morning and I am more than furious with these guys. They have made me look like an idiot by changing the links around without my ok and even duplicating linked information. Most of all I am absolutly pissed they took it upon themselves to remove the link to the pre-release review I had done on the game.

I have never heard anything but good about prMac but I personally am pissed as hell. They of course quickly replied to all emails right up to the point the release went out and now my questions and complaints have gone unanswered for almost an hour. So I'd like to know if anyone has ever had anything like this happened or am I just really that lucky?

No, that's not happened to me at all. Used them with no problems for three or four games now.

    Maybe this will help?

I had a big fall out with them recently as well.

Basically they changed some links (that didn't seem to work well for me) and made a rather obvious spelling mistake in their type up.

I wasn't actually upset about the mistakes as they promised to fix it (even though it had already gone out to over 600 news sites).

So they reissued a new PR for me that they corrected. However, they didn't actually correct anything, just published the same one again. So, ended up with 2 incorrect releases going out. Which did make me look a bit foolish.

When I informed them again they got a bit defensive and told me it didn't matter and it wouldn't affect sales and that I was getting upset over nothing. Which was interesting as I wasn't upset, just a bit unhappy at the 2nd cock up. In the end the big guy kept emailing me back in a rather passive aggressive way so I asked him in the end to stop replying and we'd just agree to disagree.

I was thinking of using them in the near future too - but now not so sure.

Anyone know of any good alternatives out there that don't have a habit of screwing up press releases!?

yea i used them after a pretty horrendous advertising campaign with pocketgamer (never use them!!!) lol... prmac were quite good with me, my press release was quite poor, because i wasn't to familiar with how they work and they sorted it out for me quite well.. for what you pay its a good service, i just think you need to either get them to write you a press release or do one yourself which meets general standards...hardest part is marketing in my opinion..on a side note can anyone post methods to contact publishers?

They write your press release for you???

I always just write it myself and pay the $20 to have it distributed - didn't realise they actually write one for you.

And tut tut on the spelling mistake ;)

QS it costs more for them to write it for you. I wrote mine and they made no chafes to the release itself they changed all my links which makes no sense even renamed a screen shot link I included to splashscreen which it's not so that just makes me look like an idiot. And they removed my facebook link and replaced with a link to the icon on iTunes how the hell that is better I have no idea. And what really really pisses me off the most is I worked hard to get a prerelease review done so I could include that link I the press release to show others are already interested in the game. I didn't pay for the review and do not know the person so it's a legit third party review.

Their response so far has been I need to not let my emotions get the best of me and they know what they are doing? And they have hurt nothing because the point of the press release is to tell tge media about the game not help sales.

Ok So, I must say that now that I was able to call and personally talk to these guys they seem to have good reasons. Im not sure why they could not just explain that the first time around. But hey they say they are going to edit and re-release my release.

Im just gonna go ahead and pass this info along for those of you who decide to use them. If you plan to post third party link ie. reviews You need to explain those links in your release itself. Apparently just having a link title that says Third-Party Pre-Release review. Does not explain it enough.

Second. You can add your Facebook stuff to contact info somewhere but not in your release links. They say the Journalist don't like that.

One email explaining that info would have save me from losing 5 years off my life from the mild heart attack I suffered When I saw the changes they made. But hey its in the past now and I am not going to check out QS's link on making everything ok.

    ;)

Edit: Im closing this since its been resolved and was my venting session. I'll reopen if I need to re complain about prMac ;) - tenrdrmer
