I would consider 1,200 downloads in four days for someone's first app as very good.

    May I ask:

Is it a free app or paid?
    What marketing have you done?
What is it? Can you post a link?

The people at Apple decide which apps are list in the 'What's Hot' and 'New and Noteworthy' sections, and as far as I know, developers cannot influence this choice.

no it is Free and almost Lite version bcuz it is not completed yet
    .
no marketing, I just told in some forums.

This is not my game, Im manager of our group , I helped Mignon to make this game:
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dirty-bugs/id460000799?ls=1&mt=8

Is 1200 downloads good for a free game as our first app?

    by the way :
you dont know how many downloads an app need, to be in top 200 or top 25 ?( I heard 10000 times in one day will make app to be in top 25)
does anyone know how this system rating work ?

    Thanks in advanced

Just pulled this from the Web:

"Apple tracks the popularity of apps and ranks them in lists of top 100 apps. These are the ‘Top Paid’ and ‘Top Free’ lists you see when you browse the app store. The exact method is known only to Apple, but it seems that Apple measures app popularity by unit downloads over the last day, perhaps using a weighted method where downloads from previous days have a decaying influence on ranking."

I don't know what sales figures you need to get a top ranking. There seems to be lots of people who can quote sales needed to hit the top 100/top 20, etc (even on the GS Forum), but I don't know how accurate or valid their speculations are. There are even companies you can pay to 'guarantee' a top 100 ranking. I wouldn't trust any of them. (One scheme I've read about does seem to work, but their methods are banned by Apple so if you get caught then you're booted off the app store!)

My app "Skate Punk Bird Massacre" got 1126 downloads yesterday.
    Being FREE makes a difference.

Can anyone tell me how much iAds would typically pay out on a free app getting 1200 downloads a day?

I would say less than a dollar.

I have two lite apps in the App Store with iAds.

On Saturday they made 1,105 requests for ads.
419 of those requests actually received an ad.
And 2 people actually clicked on an ad as well.

This generated a total of $1.39 for the day.

It's usually much lower than that.

The top free apps usually generate over 100,000 downloads a day. You'll need to be pulling in those numbers to start seeing any kind of real money.

I still recommend trying to go the paid route. Much less competition than free apps. My Grisly Manor game still pulls in hundreds of dollars a day, and it's been a year since its release.

Thats awesome and well deserved Joe, is that hundreds of dollars just on the iOS or Android, Amazon etc all tied in together?

Dang Joe thats an incredible fill rate for iAds
  • butterbeanbutterbean Member Posts: 4,315
I have one app that has 36,000 requests for ads, with 8,342 impressions, but the fill rate is terribly low at 22%, so the revenue is not great.

I heard of a developer awhile back that did well with iAds, but they were in the top 25 ranked free apps, and to achieve that type of ranking, is very difficult...

@ brainsalad, 1200 is a good number. i should know, check out my nickname XD

as far as iads go, i think the most brilliant way to do them IF they are iads is:

zenonia 3 they have the store that u need special points to buy from (with good items) but the only way to get those pts is to watch the videos at the beginning. i always click them, even tho i dont watch them. they might also offer those points for cash tho, i dont know. but it will bring people clickin the adds for sure.

His Adventure was at the top of the free app charts and that was getting 50,000 downloads a day. In terms of iAds, I couldn't say. From my experience with my lite version I would say $1 per 1000 downloads. Depend of course on how frequently you are displaying the Ads.
