Upload the GS Viewer to App Store

I'd love to see the GS Viewer uploaded to the app store each time a new update to it is done, much like Unity3D does with their viewer.

That way you're guaranteed a working compilation (I managed to corrupt it on several occasions), as well as being spared the initial hassel of code-signing the XCode project.

Thanks for the great work you're doing!

Its been talked about many times before. And basically The new xcode makes it a piece of cake and I would much rather not have GS updated held up on Apple Reviews.

I would like to see that also

but i think GS try it already, but Apple reject it(maybe try it again since the new CEO)

Despite the delays the review will impose on it, I still would have liked to have it in the App store. I've managed a copule of erroneous builds using the downloaded GS Viewer project (0.9.71 and 0.9.6), and for the last builds (http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=31347&replies=1#post-231443) I can't seem to find the culprit. A clean and provenly working build on the App store would help limit the debugging.

I would like this too, but it is against apples terms of service, sorry.

Are you sure? The Unity 3D remote is still up on the App Store, and it's pretty much the same type of app.

Pretty sure it has something to do with how GS handles apps too. If they uploaded it to the store you would only be able to have 1 game at a time, you couldn't go to previous games and have a whole list of tested ones like you do currently. I say leave it

I never understand why this is such a sought after thing. It's ridiculously simple to do it yourself.

Is there a reason why you want this other than the perceived convenience of it?

Waiting a week for a new build would suck every month. I don't see how having it on the app store will make it more stable, or less buggy myself. But yeah, it's been discussed a lot, and it's as simple as downloading and clicking Build and Run in Xcode now.

And not that the folks at GameSalad are irresponsible, but lets say for discussion purposes when a new build comes out, and they go to put it on the app store... Accidentally, an old build is uploaded, and it is not realized until it goes through the review process, and goes live on the store. Now nobody can use the viewer at all, and it will be another week possibly before the correct build is uploaded and reviewed and put out on the store again. Right now, we just have to be creative and figure out workarounds for the problems we encounter, but being held up a week with no viewer at all would be a disaster.

That scenario would probably never happen, but Murphy's Law states basically, If there's a chance for something to go wrong, eventually it will.

uptimistik: GameSalad was designed for designers, wasn't it? ;) I've been using XCode for a copule of years now, and have been coding since -99, so I guess ineptitude wasn't the most pressing reason for the request :)

RKS: Was not aware of that - thanks for the update.

beefy_clyro: Yes, that could be the reason. Not really sure what goes on in the heads of the reviewers, though :P

Dizko: I think I've stated the benefit of having an uncorrupted build twice in this post now. You can also check this thread in response to my latest hassle with getting an uncorrupted build onto my devices:

    http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=31347#post-231476

SlickZero: There is no reason why the most recent project shouldn't still be downloadable the way it is now just because a week later the app store build is available.

Anyway, since as RKS says this sort of app seems to be prohibited by Apple's latest (for us mere mortals seemingly arbitrary and random) rules, I guess that puts an end to the discussion :P

It's been talked and talked about over the pAst 3 years. They have tried a few times to get it in there, it's against apples ToS and won't be showing up.

Plus, if you cant get the viewer installed, you should find another hobby :) there are plenty of tutorials out there.
