These two games are pretty rad... As many of you know. My next game will be a similar type of game & I have plans for a LOT of graphics for this game. I want to have multiple levels of wide panoramic images, coupled with parallax mid ground and foreground graphics.

I'm wondering how to chop the images up for the best optimization.

I am an environment artist for the film industry. I'm used to GIANT images and sometimes 1000's of frames to reveal an image.

When it comes to game backgrounds... I know what I WANT to do... But not what I have to do.

Due to the way iPhones handle images, the biggest GameSalad will let you import is 1024 x 1024, so no matter how big it is, you'll have to slice it at that size and stitch it within GameSalad. Its worth noting that big images really effect RAM and an iPhone 3G will crash out on about 40mb RAM. Whatever you do, make sure you use the viewer throughout and keep an eye on the RAM usage.

So, would I make a scene with a huge horizontal size and just tile the heck out of the background?

Has anyone done an "endless runner" that has advice about background optimization?
