What do you think?
Would You like the GS forum to be an IOS app?
We already had ethe GS creator and the GS website,
But wouldn't be nice especially for sous chefs, and chefs to be completely connected, To have a forum app for gamesalad

Why? Gamesalads entire website and forum is fully compatable with iOS devices. I'm on my iPhone right now. I have not found anything yet that does not work.

Yes that's absoulutely correct but we could have an app like macrumours or so,something

I tried making a post to this website from an iPhone recently. While I was successful, it wasn't that easy. Additionally, an app on the iTunes App Store could be additional promotion for GameSalad.

Yodapollo is working on an update to this forum. If it's with vBulletin, there's a nice cross-platform app. It's not that expensive to set it up and I think it could be helpful for the community.

Tenrdrmer, I can easily post, but it is super laggy when editing posts, and the online now box in the side bar doesn't work continuously. PM sending is also very laggy.

It's very laggy for me also, and I have very good wifi. And it's definitely not the device.

A GS Forum app is a great idea!

But Why? No one here has even said its a bad idea. We are just wondering Why. Apple Rejects app that Do not Enhance the User Experience. So how would an App of the Forum, Enhance the Experience you already get from this site. Users have actually made web apps before that are just an RSS feed of the site. None of them IMO is a valid replacement of the forum. All you could do was read some posts. There was no interaction. So whats the point. How would an app be different? I can post now through the site. An app would not somehow give me connectivity when I have no internet. I still need wifi or 3g to access any updated data.

And Calvin some links, When accessed from the device, require that you hold them until the options pop up and you tap Open URL. At first I was annoyed by this but the after realizing how often you can click a wrong link on the iPhones Screen Its very useful to help reduce mistakes. Especially since I have a DeletePost link really close to my Quote link.

Am I have only noticed a lag when my internet in general is slow. An App is not going to give you a better connection.

So I ask, Why? What is the benefit? Thats not meant as an insult. Or anything negative. I am seriously asking what is the benefit. How is it better for GameSalad to shift yet again focus to another project that does not give us better features and general app performance.?

Meh, there are better things to spend time developing IMHO. The website works fine as is.

I don't think it's a bad idea if done correctly.

That vbulliten app that works across all vbulliten forums is nice, and would be a welcome addition to the GS forums, but i don't want a dedicated gamesalad forum app, that would be a waste of resources.

I have offered to game salad before for this because I started to make one on my own time for the entire site not just the forums in Xcode but I never heard back if they wanted the source code or anything

I think it will be a great idea if there is a forum app(on mac and ios)

@tenrdrmer I know, but first of all the button is not big and sometimes you will press the edit button(if it is your own post), and you have to hold it for about 3 sec, that is annoying

we definitely DO NOT need a forum app! we just need a mobile version of the site. like how google and youtube have mobile versions. that would be a lot simpler
  • tenrdrmertenrdrmer Member, Sous Chef, Senior Sous-Chef Posts: 9,934
Calvin Yes I know they are small and hats why having to hold the link to make sure you have the right one is actually nice. And you could always zoom.

@icanmake. I think that would be the best solution to this idea. Would save a lot of time and effort as well as it is probably Far more likely. :)

+1 but an app would be easier, you could even incorporate an iTunes connect style app but for game salad arcade

I'm not against an app, but I do NOT want a mobile version to the site. Call it a personal preference, but every time I go to a website and they have a mobile version, I almost always end up tapping on "Show Regular Site" because 9/10 times the mobile version gives you less than the full version. I'm perfectly satisfied with just the website, but I wouldn't say no to an app either.

    I agree no mobile version!!,
But an app is tempting, if i could use Xcode id make one with the permission of the gs team of course!!
