Hey. I can do my own images if they're quite basic but struggle doing decent looking things. Where do you all get your imagery/artwork from? Is there a place i can buy images that i am allowed to use for apps? I was looking at the istock site and it looks like you are not allowed to resell the image or use it in games! Thanks

From what I read in the terms, you can use it in your games.

It's the method of usage that needs to be understood.

For instance, you can use the image on a flyer or poster with all your details on it, but you cannot use the image straight off and print it on a mug or T-shirt for sale.

Stock photography is meant to be "used," whether it ends up as a background or as a filler or supplement `for something you are already building or designing.` If the use is solely because it's a beautiful picture and that image is primarily what would be sold, then that particular use is illegal.

I just picked up a Wacom tablet and I'm going to draw me some new artwork for my upcoming games. I kinda like the way the artwork for Jonathan's `F is for Falling / Z is for Zombie` works in his games, and I might try to put my painting/drawing skills to the test.

ah right gotcha, i hate laws, they always make it too confusing. haha. all i really wanna know is can i purchase an image and use it in a background for one of my games? it may even be edited before being used as background but even if its not, its still going to have things over it. i guess then, they're just stopping you buying an image and then selling it off as is, i just want to incoproate images into my games.

I purchased a wacom tablet a while ago after getting inspiration off of watching speed painting vids. Needless to say though, i never used so sold it on. Now that i've gotten into GS i've bought myself the bamboo touch and pen, its great. Now i'll sit at work, doodle some characters, take a pic on my phone, get home and get the pic in photoshop and then just trace it using the bamboo. Tidy it up and colour it in and jobs done. I dont mind drawing characters but find i cant really do scenery/backgrounds so if i can buy an image which is adequate then thats all good.

Bottom line is yes, you can use it as a background image for your game.
