Velocity and actors = problems

I'm getting some very weird results from velocity. I have an actor that has a constant velocity = magnitude(x,y). Now, I have 2 different actors that actor can hit, ground and a block. If the actor hit's the ground from a certain heighth, the velocity nears 300. However, if I put the actor on the same heighth and change the target actor to block, the velocity suddenly drops below 10!

What causes this? Am I missing something from the physics?

Help would be appreciated...

    Also, the velocity seems to jump up randomly, when the falling actor hits the middle of the scene. Not fun. :(
