Possible PC exe workaround?

In the grand scheme of things game salad games are not that complex. I was thinking that today if there was a PC emulator it could possible run a game salad game, and could package it then you could in theory sell your game to the PC market.

I know this is mac territory, but windows 8 looks amazing and I would love to release a game for PC. Microsoft is coming out with their own version of the app store. If you could submit EXEs to that store, it would be a wonderful new market for our games.

Has anybody thought of this or tried this?

The second work around for this is that you could export your game to an HTML 5 game without having to upload it to the GS sever.

Anyway just a thought.

You would be better off with using Flash or Game Maker if you wanted to publish to windows.

I know there is a program called wine bottler that will take an .exe file and make a standalone Mac package that will run the .exe Not sure if there is a way to go in reverse.

I think there are lots of applications from PC -> mac but not mac -> PC. The PC market is just so big. I think as a community we could solve this together!

Thought about it? I think Microsoft should simply buy GameSalad and make Windows exporting (and game creation on Windows) a top priority. Windows 8 is far away though. GameSalad should be adding Android support soon. I'm not sure how that's going to turn out. I think that's more important than Windows right now.

I'm disappointed with the performance of Windows lately. They just don't seem to be doing anything special. Windows XP has been around since 2001... and it's still widely in use.

A little over two years ago, I didn't even own a Mac. Now, my Windows PC is in storage.

I thought there could be a workaround using embed html or the method they used with the chrome web store with some html to .exe converter.

I'm not sure if Windows 8 is backwards compatible though. I don't know if .exe files created today will run on Windows 8 machines in the future. I thought some developers were testing it already... http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/preview ...but I didn't see a download link. Frankly, I'm not that enthused about Windows. In the previous decade, I used my PC more for playing games rather than making them.

I am still holding off on buying a new computer until Windows 8 is released. Also, my Mac Mini is awesome... the best computer I've ever owned... so I don't really need a new one right now.

I long for the day that Windows dies a quick death and leaves this planet forever. It will never happen, sadly enough. I can dream, though.

I feel that this will be really easy in 2 years from now. The reason is that with most mobile applications running HTML 5. It might be possible to export to HTML 5 to EXE.

I know that this is a low key thing for game salad. But maybe in a year from now it should be on the roadmap.

I was a PC person, until I got an IPAD, then I just had to get a MacBook, and now an Iphone. I will never go back (famous last words). However, the fact is that the PC market is many fold more than Mac's market and will be for the very near (and most likely distant) future. This is because most businesses and people have been using PC's forever, they are resistant to change and the huge, huge, huge costs of change when it comes to Macs. And IPADs will never replace a desktop or laptop for true functionality when needed. The simple fact is that for most applications I need to run I can get a decent PC for $400 with monitor for $600 bucks. Every game I can make on GS would have absolutely no problem running on such a PC (if they could). That covers most casual gamers. And as to diehard gamers, don't even think about Mac, its either a console of a high-powered PC. Apple has a long long way to go if it wants to be in that market. Many people also have PCs at home (rather than Macs) because that is what their job uses and they are comfortable with it and its cheap.

Don't get me wrong. I now hate my PC at work and my PC desktop at home gets no use from me unless I forget my Mac laptop at work. But I could afford a Macbook, Iphone, and Ipad. The reality is that most businesses and people cannot and even if businesses could afford them their tech people simply have no idea how to set them up (I mean for god's sake it took my work almost a year to finally figure out how to allow my IPAD and Iphone to connect to the PC network just for e-mails.

Windows will get the similar hate on I suspect on here as Android does. Both have similar issues (non-Apple, different hardware, fragmentation, bugs/virus's etc) but from a business point of view cutting your nose of to spite your face is just silly. Windows is a HUGE market, over 9x bigger userbase than the entire Mac community.

Windows 8 is almost completely brand new so judging it on previous versions is a little unfair. The tech sites seem overall to be very much looking forward to this new OS and even Gizmodo posted this following post which I feel is very true and funny for anyone who is solely dedicated to everything Apple:

and even Boy Genius Report (normally very Pro Apple site) posted this:

Personally, Windows 8 has huge potential.

That's why I would love to make one game on Game salad and then export it to that market. Think about it, you could potentially double your sales reach.

Personally I think the best bet for game salad would be to do HTML 5 to EXE. Im not sure that exists now but Im guessing it will in the future.

Getting to an EXE format potentially opens up the door for platforms like Steam, which wouldn't suck.

It is, it's not all out different in the back end of things. Most everything has been historically backwards compatible with exception to driver dependent hardware.

On another note, I am noticing that most of the hardware people are trying to make sure that it is as easy as possible to get your content on their device.

Engines like unity pride themselves as being able to deploy to many different platforms. I have a feeling that in the future this won't be much of an issue.

Anyway. I would love to see my games made with game salad on any system, consoles, PC, wherever. I know that isn't feasible now. But maybe in 2 years.
