Inconsistency in scoring. Why?

Hi All,
I am new to learning GS. I have been modifying templates in the GS Creator. My problem is this,
I am working from the Packinno game.
I want to change the middle goal to another scoring number. I have renamed the middle goal. I then went to "ball" and copied the rule that includes: When conditions are valid, Play sound, Change attribute.
I changed "Actor of Type" giving the middle goal it's new name and entered value in change attribute.
When I preview the scoring works only sometimes and sometimes it does not register value at all.
Why is this?
