Game idea for drawing platforms in game.

I wanted to get your guys' input on my next game.

I have been working on a game with a crayon theme where the main actor is a stick figure and the goal is to collect the stars that are coming by him. It is a continuous stream of buildings, enemies, and stars coming from the right and the actor is basically Staying still.

The part I think will be cool is that I have setup a drawing system that allows the user to draw the hills, platforms, and power ups. I have limited the drawing to two continuous lines at a time so the player can't just keep drawing endlessly.

I have power ups appear randomly in the middle of the screen and the player has to trace the shape it is in before it disapears to get it.

It's very drawing centric as you can see.

I trust all of you guys to not use all of these ideas, I don't mind if you pick it apart and use some ideas. I don't even know if it's worth using the ideas. ;)

Please let me know what you think of the games premise.

This seems pretty good to me. The only thing I'd say is to watch the memory being used. The only way I could figure out how to draw a character involved a lot of constraints, and really killed performance. If you figure out a way that will work on a device, though, then this could be really cool.

Ya I am holding about 35 fps with my current proof of concept. I will upload a video of a bit of gameplay in a bit.

35FPS on what device. If thats an iPhone 4 thats not good. It will likely not run on a 2nd gen and 3rd gen is kinda iffy.

Ok I just tested a physical iPad 1 and iPhone 4.

On both devices it ran between 45 fps and 55 fps and it seemed to lean more toward 55 and occasional spikes at 60 fps.

Please remember this is just a proof of concept.

    Any more takers? Ideas?

I persoanlly dont like the doodle style. I think its way over done. The game idea has been done some but not a lot so if you can make it unique sure it has a chance. A couple similar games are Solipskier (not exactly the same but similar enough) and Sub Zero Surfer(not sure if this ever got published but it was made with gamesalad). Im sure there are others so just make sure you check them out and try to make your stand out from these games in some way.

I thought the doodle style was kind of cool, kinda like crayon physics.

What do you mean by overdone? The stop frame effect or just the fact that it's doodled?

Search Doodle on the app store and you will see hat I mean by overdone. To me I looks like a half assed game made by someone like me who cannot make my own art. and someone to cheap to pay someone to make the art. But thats just one mans opinion. ;)

You don't hold back do ya?

Check out crayon physics if you get a chance. That was my inspiration initially.

Any body else got an opinion, maybe some more feedback on the premise as well?

Im not a sugar coater. If I take the time to give you my opinion your gonna get an honest opinion. I'd rather see you succeed then sugar coat things and blow you off with BS advice like some will give. Its completely your choice the route you take but its best to make that choice with all the information you can get.

I'm not a doodle fan either for the same reasons. But I do like the wiggly doodle style in a way.
With a good background music it could do something.

And Tenrdrmer is right, better an honest opinion then a half baked cake. ;)

No no.. I am glad you gave your honest opinion. I appreciate it. :)

I was just making a comment. Nothing to it.

Thanks guys for your advice. Im gonna put this game on hold while I work on another I have in mind. No doodles! Lol
