Hey guys,

I didn't see a thread for this already (chef can delete this thread if there is)
so I just wanted to start a thread where you can post how much money you spent on your game/if it was worth it.

Could be useful to other people. :)

I try to spend as little money as possible. It's better to spend your time versus money.

This great trailers worth on the long run because of my strategy of creating ePig Games (Games of the Same character). Otherwise, maybe don't.

But, now that I achieve the 40k price, I think trailers help me a lot for that, because they see us a serious company.

But I use to spend money just on music and sounds.

Would love to be able to do all by myself, But I know great people that do things for me like music, sounds and trailer.

    Cheers.

I try to spend as little as possible. I am working on a project now that I hope I won't have to spend any money on :)

i bought a macbook pro, ipod for testing, and apple dev acct. o yeah, and DeepBlue Apps platinum bundle, but tso far thats it, made everything myself besides a few sounds

Not including the Apple Dev Program, $0. There is always a free piece of similar software somewhere (Photoshop = GIMP, Maya, 3DS Max etc = Blender, Illustrator = Inkscape).

deepblue apps bundle, mac mini, iphone plus monthly bill to have the iphone gamesalad $99 before it was free, apple dev license 2nd year running...

geesh time to get this game out the door!

2 girlfriends, 1 job, $1036,- on coffee. In one year.

On a serious note: I haven't spend much. Pro, apple developer fee and a big external drive.
Some pencils and paper. And a notebook (I mean a real paper one).
I have drawing skills and have interface skills as a graphic designer.
I make my videos too and the ones I made where poor but that because I wanted too get the app in the store ASAP and have a video. In the future (or should i say now) I will take more time.
So overall the most thing I spend is time. Lots if time I normally use for my design company.
If I would count my hours I would have spent a fortune. But I have lots of fun and hope to have this as my main income so I am happy.

Ye! we are 5 in group so no! we don't spend nothing cause i've an artist a programmer , me, a designer and an animator/sound designer. I'am the boss with the designer so we take the money and they take the salary when we will make some money :) still nothing cause i'm stacked with my game and really.... android was just a waste of time, no money from there...

Here are some reasons to spend money.

    1. Talent in your game. Let's say you want to work with a great programmer or a semi famous artist or musician. Most people who are worth their salt won't work for free.
    2. Advertising. If you want to build a brand with your game or studio you will have to spend about a new car's worth amount of money promoting your game. I wouldn't suggest this rout for one game but if you have a multi game strategy then this is the way to go.
    3. Assets, If you need sound, art, or sometimes even code or templates.
