I too agree they should keep the market place forum open. I realize they are trying to shift the focus onto their Marketplace, but I think it would be nice for people who sell templates that may not make it onto the Official Marketplace to have a place on the forums to do business. Just my two cents...
Is GS taking a percentage from the things posted on the marketplace?
My thought is that if the marketplace on the forum is removed, the whole forum would become a place of spam.

Nope Because the Sous-Chefs Will delete anything for sale. No selling will be allowed on the forum making it a place only for free help and thats all. Also if there are problem users that spam anyway I would expect we will be banning the users for breaking forum rules. Thats the point of the whole thing. Remove the monetization from the marketplace.
its a bad idea ....they should keep the Marketplace forum. will the New Marketplace page have all templates that are here from other developers ....or just templates from the Sous Chefs like Tshirt and UtopianGames??

They are slowly Giving more ppl Access. However developers wishing to sell must provide sample work to show they are not just a fast cash kinda person. Anyone creating quality original stuff should be granted access. The process is taking longer than I would like to get stuff in there right now but I would hope soon enough it will smooth out. I personally have been approved to List items Its just taking a while to get all the needed info to actually upload anything.

Thats actually a little bit unclear at this time. I have suggested they add a section to the marketplace so anyone approved to sell can list contact Details for Custom Work. Be it Art, Sounds, project help, custom games, etc… hopefully they go with something like that.
I thought about putting this in "Bye Bye Marketplace" but I wanted to have a poll added, just in case that helped sway the powers that be to my side.
The marketplace forum section needs to stay. Reasons:
1. Communication. If there's a question asked about a template, you can answer it on the same page, and other people can see the answer. I also really like to see what other people think of a template. This is really my main reason. I just don't like the idea of seeing a template, and not seeing what other people think of it. I think others would agree.
2. Search Capabilities. I'm sorry, but I don't think the search system for the GS marketplace is that good. It needs more categories or tags, or something. At any rate, it's much easier for me to find a template from the forum.
3. Popular Opinoin (at least in my reading, I'm seeing a lot more people against changing the forum than those for it).
4. The ability to embed videos and general formatting opinions available to posters.
I cant wait for it to be closed to be honest. Alot of people dont even visit it cause it just looks like a spam folder. Also in the official marketplace im sure youll be able to post videos and contact information.
It also keeps the crap out since you have to be approved. Its gonna be a great thing
The forum is much better off. And will let others besides the select few actually get exposure without getting bumped down every hour.
And merged the threads no need to clutter up the forum.
I actually like the idea of an official market place where I can buy items from. What I don't like is that it seems like there will be no place to buy or sell one time things, like exclusive art or templates, music or projects.
I would have never found some of the assets I own if not for the old Market Place.

I am guessing the reason would be that GS would not be getting their 30% from the old Market Place. I would like to see both exist and the people that don't like the old Market Place could just not use it.

Darren.
A question, how will services such as level design and game creation be handled once this forum is down?
Edit: In case anyone missed it there is a sticky explaining the new Marketplace. http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=32199
