Brio Game just released Jetpack Adventure and the screen shots are the exact same as the DBA template. Only pointing it out because I am pretty sure the art is protected with this game.

all of Brio Games apps are DBA templetes, look at fairy woods and air patrol for example!

Yes, I noticed that. However, DBA no longer allows the use of the art in their templates (new templates).

If Darren did not want the art used he would have watermarked the art like he said was going to. This is an issue for DBA and their contact info is on their website if you want to report it.

So...this was closed and now open?

My point was, it is watermarked, see all of those lines through the template? As a community I think we really need to be concerned about this stuff. If the art I pay for ever gets ripped off, I sure hope someone reports it and the topic isn't closed before I see it.

you can count on basically every template ever made being published as is.

And hopefully the owner of the template/art is notified so they can decide whether it is worth their time/money to protect their assets or not.

Templates are ruining GS's rep within the developer community. I hate it.

We have beat this to death. Darren and Spriteattack have the decision to give away the art or not. Really what is the deal if it's published or not? Besides ruining the GS rep. It shouldn't matter if you bought the art or not because you are against using their art that comes with the template. None of us want this to continue, but it's not up to us to fix it.

Last time I pointed this out in the Jetpack joyride template thread, everyone got all touchy even though it was a joke with a purpose.

Bottom line is, unless Darren decides to not provide art, which I doubt will happen, or GS decides to filter this stuff out, you are just going to have to expect this to happen. There ARE people out there that ACTUALLY believe this unfinished crap will make some money. Silly them.

Well said DreamLab. The way I look at it is this. I have bought some of DBA's templates and am going to give them a complete graphics overhaul so you don't even recognize it. Then, I'll focus on making a killer game that will blow the one on the App Store completely out of the water, and thus drive traffic to my app. You've got to look at this as an opportunity to succeed, rather than complain about the fact that some people have no morals and will just release something to make a quick buck. Those kinds of apps will never prevail in the long haul. Yes, its sad that this is ruining GameSalad's rep, but honestly, thats not up to us, as developers, to fix. Those who do have the power to fix it must decide if it is worth it or not.

We DID watermark art for this template...so users are uploading with watermarked art...."throws hands in the air and bangs head against the wall"

Darren and I did watermark the art for the JetPack template - hence all the dark diagonal lines in the art... I don't know what else to do to make art show to the user what they are and how they work - in order for the template to be easier to understand and modify. Posting a game with art like this is just nuts...

I already requested the app to be taken down not just for the template art but also for the clear case of copyright infringement by using 'Rocketeer' art in the title screen.
    http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&global=1&q=rocketeer+#/dpt214

I asked for this before and I will ask again... Imho there should be a code of conduct that allows GameSalad to ban users from posting their apps if they reflect badly on GS community as apple seems to just greenlight apps now with little to no monitoring...

This is a clear case of artistic theft, stupidity and greed and imho users like BrioGames should be banned with all their ips and possible multiple accounts and their apple developer licence removed.

The alternative is to do the art, show it off in all its glory in the template, after that, run a PS action or something on it that sticks SAMPLE all over it. I don't think just making the lines is enough of a deterrent.

Yeah. You should have been more aggressive with the watermaking.
The diagonal lines just look like a cool scanlines effect to me.

We have contacted apple to take this down.

Also Chris has just informed me he has used an illegal image for the title page.

@beefy_clyro & @Sparkyidr - I honestly thought it would be enough to add the lines and didn't think anyone would use the art after that. Sadly I will have be more aggressive with the watermarking.

Yup rather unfortunate really but that is the reality of it!

I think this thread should now be closed as the applicable actions have/are taking place ... We don't want this thread beaten to death as well now do we ;)
