Xcode 4.2, iOS4.2, GSViewer problems

Has anyone else experienced problems after updating to 10.7 (Lion) and then having to update Xcode to 4.2 which does not contain a 4.x SDK only the 5.0 SDK ?

GS Viewer installs without a problem on iOS5 devices (a few LucidaGrande text errors) but I have a second gen iPod Touch running 4.2.1 for testing prepossess and although Xcode states that the "Build Succeeded" it won't run and is not installed on the iPod.

I've made the usual Identifier/Deployment Target/Base SDK changes but nothing seems to solve the issue.

I have had to use xcode 3 to keep a viewer running on my 3g I dont know if they have an xcode 3 for Lion though. I think apple is trying really hard to flush out all 2nd gen devices from being used.

Hence the 3gs is free now with a contract.

It seems that way, I tried installing Xcode 3 but there where problems.

I don't really understand Apples thinking on this as developers still need to test on older devices for compatibility.

Okay so a work around I've just used is to install 10.6 and Xcode 3 on an external drive or separate partition and install GS Viewer from there.

Pretty annoying but it works, got to love the never ending update cycle.
