Platforms spawning on top of each other?

I'm making a platform game similar to doodle jump and I've used Toast Kitten's template to make the platforms appear, however, after playing for around 30 seconds the platforms start to spawn on top of each other. I tried to make a rule where if they collided with one another then they would be set to a random position, but that didn't work (unless i did it wrong?). Can anyone help me out?
