Frame hit with sound files - something to watch for
Something I noticed in my new game suburban gran prix. As your racing Round you can run over things at various time for points.
When you hit the item it relocates the actor and shows the points graphic as well as a sound when you do this. I would always see a frame jitter when this occurred. I thought at first it was because I spawned the points graphic so I changed it to be used from off screen. Still jittered.
So the only other thing was the sound. It was one I bought off Darren called "disgusting fail" I trimmed it a bit and saved it as .ogg file at a mid quality bringing the size down from 28KB to 20KB. jitter seems to be gone.
So if you've got fast movement on screen and an event occurs where a sound is produced and you notice a frame drop on that moment, try optimizing the sound as much as possible.
