Running GS on OLD Intel iMac?

My nephew wants to use GameSalad, but does not have a Mac (9 years old). I was thinking of getting him one of the earlier models of iMac with Intel, for instance: (iMac, 17 inch, 1,83 Ghz Intel core duo, 2 GB ram, ATI Radeon X1600)

Does anybody here use an equally old Mac with similar specs and can verify that GS is running ok on it?

I was actually more interested in peoples first-hand experience with GS on older specs to get an understanding of exactly how laggy it could be.

    But thanks anyway :)

2GB its not much ram for GameSalad and art software to run at the same time. I have ran GameSalad on a 1.6 Ghz netbook but it was not good. Really need 4GB ram minimum but 8GB would be better.

Was it unusable, or was GS manageable for smaller projects?

I think he will be using art software (adobe) on their pc and import it to the mac, so running the programs at the same time will probably not be an issue.

The max upgrade for the specific model I'm looking at is 3 Gb (1+2Gb), and the cpu was actually clocked at 2.0 ghz (late 2006 model). So perhaps it's up to speed for simpler GS projects...?

I think it should be ok. I run GS on my 1.2 GHz netbook with 1GB of ram, and its of. I haven't tested fully, but it works alright...

Thanks for sharing. Well, seems like this computer should be a good enough startingpoint for him - let's just hope he can learn how to use GS ;)

He probably will need to know how to use adobe software too.

Sure will, but I doubt that will be a problem, GS is truly one of the easiest and fastest ways to produce a game I've encountered :)
