Screen freezes when I try to edit actor

I remember running into this a couple months ago, and I found a fix but cannot remember what it was and couldn't locate the thread. Last time I backed up to external drive was a couple days ago, so I'm looking at 10+ hours of work lost.

Does anybody remember the fix for this?
